Taking the driver's seat

A guest asked for a oneshot of Emma and Neal interacting when Neal is a teenager.

"Stop!" Emma yelled, clinging to the door for dear life. She'd never been so frightened being in a car in an otherwise empty car park. She now heavily regretted offering to give Neal some driving practice. Snow point blank refused, and he claimed it was too stressful with Charming. He'd been asking Emma for weeks and had eventually worn her down. She should have learned her lesson with Henry. Neal was even worse than he was. He slammed his foot on the break and it juddered to a halt. "Neal, you can't go that fast when you don't know what you're doing." Emma sighed. "Try and take things slow for now." Neal nodded, too frustrated to speak.

"I know it's not easy kid. But you'll get there. You just need to slow down."

"Yeah yeah." He grumbled, crossing his arms across his chest. He was just so angry with himself for not being able to drive properly. Emma squeezed his shoulder.

"Don't beat yourself up. You'll get it eventually."

"Was it this hard for you?" He asked.

"Harder." Emma told him. "I didn't have parents or a wonderful, amazing, beautiful big sister to teach me." Neal rolled his eyes. Emma chuckled, at least he seemed to have calmed down slightly.

"Ok, let's try again. Ten and two, and don't slam that foot on the accelerator. Ready?" Neal nodded, but he could feel his stomach churning. "And it's ok if you don't get it right. You'll get there." Neal took a deep breath as he started the engine. Emma would get him there.
