Only just breathing

Here's a chapter to cover 3 different requests…

The guest who asked for Charming looking after a sick Emma.

The guest who asked for Emma getting hurt and nobody letting Snow know. When she does find out she gets mad (I hope sick fits in with getting hurt!)

And last but not least, the guest who asked for a continuation of "Struggling for breath". Enjoy guys!

It was just as well Emma chose hospital over facing her mom. On the journey there her breathing began to deteriorate again. Except this time her inhaler didn't help much. Charming had to carry her into the hospital where she was immediately taken through to a private room and put on oxygen. Charming was made to wait outside. It nearly killed him to leave Emma seeing her like that. He wanted her to know she was right there, but he had to let Whale and the nurses do their job first.

Charming was pacing frantically up and down the corridor when Whale came out.

"How is she?" Charming asked desperately. Whale gave him an encouraging smile.

"Her breathing is much better. She's still on oxygen for safety's sake. That was a pretty nasty attack she had. It was just as well you got her to us so quickly." Charming's face paled at the thought of what might of happened.

"We were on our way here anyway." He croaked. "She'd already had a smaller attack whilst we were chasing a thief. She was better but I thought it might be best getting her checked out." Whale nodded.

"Well it was just as well you did." Whale motioned to the room. "You can go in and see her now if you want." Charming nodded before briskly walking into the room. Emma was sitting looking slightly huffy on the bed with the oxygen mask over her nose and mouth. When she saw her dad come in her eyes lit up slightly and she moved her hand over the mask to take it off.

"No." Charming instructed her, moving her hand away. "That stays right where it is until Whale or one of the nurses says otherwise." Emma rolled her eyes, crossing her arms across her chest. Charming chuckled lightly at her. "It's for your own good…Emma, I was so scared just there. Please don't ever do that to me again." Emma couldn't really respond with the mask on. She just gave as good an apologetic look as she could, before erupting into a coughing fit. Charming sprang into action immediately, getting up and rubbing Emma's back.

"Deep breaths honey. Do you need me to call Whale back?" Emma shook her head, focusing on getting her breathing in order. "Ok. That's it. Nice big breaths." Only when Charming was sure Emma's breathing was back to normal did he take his hand away from her back. "There, better." Just then, Charming's phone rang. He pulled it out and saw it was Snow calling him. He grimaced.

"Hey Snow."

"Charming, where are you and Emma? You're over an hour late!" Charming knew he was for it. He'd totally forgotten to tell Snow about Emma's attack.

"I'll take this outside." Charming whispered quickly walking out of the room. He didn't want Emma to hear Snow yelling down the phone at him.

Charming was right that Snow was furious with him. She couldn't believe her daughter was in hospital and nobody had told her! Charming had defended himself by saying he was too worried about Emma to remember to tell anyone. That didn't calm Snow down very much. She quickly dropped Neal off with Red and Granny and made her way to the hospital. She had a chat with Doctor Whale about Emma's follow up. He was going to make her an extra inhaler so she could have one on her at all times and so could Snow or Charming (seeing as they were fairly sure Emma would try and plank hers somewhere). She then marched into Emma's room. Both Charming and Emma shrunk down at the look on her face. She was not amused. But she put that aside for a moment.

"How are you feeling?" She asked gently, coming over to Emma. She put her hand up, giving an ok sign. Snow sighed. "Emma, I would hardly say being in a hospital with an oxygen mask counts as ok. You should have mentioned that you had asthma. Whale's getting you an extra inhaler. You will keep one inhaler on you at all times. But just in case that should 'slip your mind' your father or I will also have the spare one." Emma fought back an eye roll. The mood her mother was in she decided it might be fatal. Instead she settled for a short nod. "Good." Snow turned her attention to Charming. "If either of our children or indeed our grandson," At this Snow gave a warning look to Emma "are ever in trouble I expect to be contacted immediately. Is that very clear?"

"Yes ma'am." Charming said, fighting back a laugh. Snow narrowed her eyes dangerously.

"I am serious Charming. If something had happened here today I would never have known…I know your mind was on Emma but even after the first attack was over and you were on your way here I think I should have been texted." Charming looked down guiltily.

"Ok, fair point, I'm sorry. But even then I was still a little rattled. She wasn't breathing, Snow. She was scared and I couldn't help…"

"I'm right here." Emma grumbled through the mask. Charming squeezed her shoulder.

"Sorry kiddo. You need some sleep." Charming settled himself in the chair beside her bed with his hand right beside the panic button. "I'm right here if you need me." Emma looked to her mother to protest but saw her settling down in the other chair. She had pulled her phone out and was no doubt giving Red instructions for Neal. Emma groaned, falling back against the pillow. There was no point in even protesting.
