Distorted vision

snoopykid asked for a oneshot of Emma getting a piece of the cursed glass stuck in her eye and Henry having to save her.

It affected Emma differently than it had anyone else. Maybe it was because she shouldn't have been affected at all. But she didn't see the worst in everyone around her- she saw the worst in herself. It didn't take long for everyone to notice something was up. Every other sentence that came out of Emma's mouth was about something she had messed up. It was Elsa who suggested placing a mirror in front of her and asking what she saw. What she said confirmed their suspicions.

"I see a failure." Emma said quietly. "I see someone who can't ever do anything right. I see someone whose peers surpassed them long ago and they were left behind. I see someone who isn't coping with life at all, with all the new situations life has given them. Even the good things get mucked up. I see someone who just wants to break down and cry but doesn't want people to see how broken they are." The group looked at each other, very worried. With the Ice Queen gone how were they going to break Emma's curse? Henry didn't know as much about curses as his mom or paternal grandpa did, but his book had taught him his fair share. And true love was stronger than any curse- wasn't it? He and his mom had broken a curse with their love before, surely they could do it again? He stepped forward, taking Emma's hand and making her look away from the mirror.

"That's not true." He said firmly. "You're much more than that." He reached up on tiptoe and kissed his mother's cheek. A bright white light suddenly burst out from them both, and a shard of glass dropped from Emma's eye. She blinked rapidly, her vision blurred. When it was restored to normal, the first thing she saw was Henry standing in front of her, smiling warmly. Emma smiled back at him, touched. She put her hand on her son's cheek.

"You are one Hell of a kid." She said, voice filled with emotion. She took her hand from Henry's face and pulled him in for a fierce hug. Since Henry had found her, he'd been telling Emma she was the saviour, but she felt it was the other way round. Henry had saved her to begin with, and continued to do so.
