An Extra Christmas present from me
A wee extra one for today. Margarita gave me a Christmas prompt, and I get all depressed writing Christmas things once Christmas is done so while I bask in the warm glow of my Christmas dinner, here ya go!
Emma hadn't expected much this Christmas.
She hadn't expected many gifts, maybe one or two things under the tree. So she was beyond surprised at the mountain of presents her parents had directed her to.
She hadn't expected a full on Christmas dinner. She knew her mom would be the one cooking (she insisted- not liking anyone else in charge in the kitchen) and Emma knew that she was still tired with sleepless nights from Neal. So again Emma was astounded at the spread her mom had laid out for them when she got back from dropping Henry off at Regina's. Emma finally knew what all the trimmings meant. Growing up she never had a foster parent at Christmas who cared enough to give them a proper Christmas dinner. Then when she was an adult there was never enough people for a proper Christmas meal. Now with her parents, Red, Granny and the dwarves she would be having a feast where the leftovers would last for days. Emma made sure to savour every bite.
Emma didn't expect much attention from her parents. After all, it was Neal's first Christmas, it was a big deal. But again, she was wrong. They watched as she opened her presents, making little comments like "I think that colour will look great on you" or "we saw you looking at that last month and couldn't resist getting it for you". They sat either side of her at dinner. Her father placing the paper crown on her head and saying that every princess needs a crown, to which Emma blushed. Then when Neal was in his bed, tired from all the excitement a six month old can handle, they curled up together in the living room with hot cocoa and a movie. One Emma had received from them. She sat contentedly on the chair, a smile on her lips as she sipped her drink. Every year she asked Santa Claus for a proper family to love her. She had long ago gave up on the hope that she would ever find her real parents, let alone think they would love her. But she was wrong. This Christmas she had them, and she knew they loved her more than life itself. She would need to write a thank you letter to Santa. This was worth the wait.
Well I hope you all are having/have had (I don't think anyone is still on Christmas Eve are they?) a wonderful Christmas. Love, JustMeAndMyKeyboard x
