An unexpected shared trait

Melpy asked for a oneshot of Snow having magic (thus why she can talk to birds) but she never told anyone. When she sees Emma's magic coming out she has to help her.

Guest: Did I even mention Snow picking locks? No. I think you're being a little unfair there. I don't hate Charming. Let's make that clear now. If you have an issue with something I've written feel free to log in and send me a wee PM where I'll be happy to discuss how you feel. Sorry, but I don't like people saying these sort of things without giving me a chance to defend myself.

Sorry about that folks. Do enjoy the chapter :). I appreciate all the support I get, keeps me going through the bad reviews!

"You'll get the hang of it." Snow said gently, as she saw her daughter struggling to bring the remote over to her, Emma's face screwed up in concentration.

"Doesn't feel like it." Emma grumbled. "I wish I could explain, but it's hard if you don't have magic."

"It feels like whenever you need it it's not there and when you need it to stay hidden it bursts out. When you try and use it, it's like trying to grab things with numb hands. It just doesn't work." Emma looked up at her mom, confused.

"Well yeah, actually…but how do you know that?" Snow bit her lip, coming and sitting down beside her daughter.

"Nobody else knows what I'm about to tell you." Snow told her. "So please, keep it to yourself. But I can't stand to see you struggling like this. I have magic, Emma. Not nearly as powerful as yours. Your power comes from you being the product of true love. I don't know where mines come from, it's how we can both talk to birds. I can do little things like bring objects over to me. I know how frustrated you are, but it'll get easier with practice."

"I still can't believe you have magic." Emma said, shocked. Snow sighed. Still looking at Emma, she held her hand out and the remote came zooming over to her. Emma gasped.

"See? With the strength of your magic, you'll be doing that in no time. The secret is to have faith in yourself, Em. That's all I can really say to help you. You need to be able to help yourself. But know that I have faith in you, honey. You can do anything you put your mind to. Don't get yourself overly frustrated. Tell yourself that you can do it, and it'll happen." Snow leaned over and kissed Emma's forehead. "I'm going to go start on dinner." Snow knew Emma would want to try again, but would want space to do so without feeling pressured. She pretended to leave for the kitchen, but hid in the hall to watch. Snow was right, Emma indeed try again. She watched with her breath held as Emma held her hand out, and she grinned proudly as it slowly moved into her hand. She could have leaped for joy for her baby girl, but didn't want Emma to feel embarrassed. But she knew Emma was going to be ok.
