Carrying on
Soprano Pixie asked for a oneshot of a follow up to "Lead to dangerous action" on how the incident affected the rest of the family and Emma getting help.
It hadn't been an easy time for any member of the Charming family. Even little Neal seemed to be picking up on the tension. Snow and Charming had tried their best to keep Henry away from everything, but he was a smart boy. He knew something was up with his mom, even if his grandparents and his mom refused to admit it. Snow and Charming had managed to persuade Emma to go to weekly counselling sessions with Archie to try and help her work through her issues. They were beginning to see a difference, but it was a slow process. Emma was beginning to realise what she might have done that night. The repercussions it may have caused. She was trying to pull away again, but Snow and Charming refused to let her. They were frightened she would try something similar again.
Of course, they had been frightened ever since the incident. Worried they hadn't paid her enough attention. Worried that it was their fault. It would have been their fault if…but neither of them wanted to think like that. Snow didn't know, but Charming woke seconds after she did every night. He knew Snow woke in the early hours each morning. She would get up and go to check that Emma was still safe in her bed before getting back into her own bed. Charming would wait for Snow to return and fall back asleep every night before going and checking on her himself. He would take her hand and whisper to Emma how much they loved her. Hoping the message would seep through in her sleep. When he went back to bed he would fall into a restless sleep. Snow too would not be having any peace. They would carry the guilt of failing Emma before she was even an hour old in their hearts until they day they died. It was a heavy burden for any parent. But that didn't mean they would give up on Emma. They would be there for her every step of the way. If at one point she needed to hurl insults at them then so be it. They carried her hurt with them along with their own guilt. If they could take it from her, they would. But the best they could do was help her realise that she was loved. And that, they could do.
