Strange new world
SaraLovesCastle asked for a oneshot of Snow and Charming making it through the wardrobe whilst Snow is still pregnant. Shortly after they arrive Snow goes into labour and Charming has to deliver Emma in the forest.
Snow paced nervously in the unfamiliar land waiting for her husband to join her. She had a hand protectively around her belly whilst the other nervously clutched the blanket Granny had spent hours stitching for Emma with her name sown in with purple ribbon. She knew Regina couldn't get them here, but for all Snow knew she'd set people up to capture them. Heaven help the person that tried to separate Snow from her baby now. Snow cried out in relief when Charming came flying through the hole in the tree.
"Are you alright?" Her asked, quickly getting to his feet and placing a hand himself on Snow's swollen belly. "The baby?"
"We're both fine." Snow assured him. "Now that you're here anyway." The pair looked around, taking in their new surroundings. It was a forest, familiar terrain. They jumped when they heard a strange noise come from the sky. Almost like a roaring. They looked up to see what appeared to be a very large bird heading into the sky. They moved under the tree, just in case it saw them and thought they'd do nicely for dinner. Snow felt a horrid stab in her stomach followed by a wetness dripping down her legs. She looked down and saw it, there was no denying it. Her waters had broken- she was in labour. Charming had felt Snow move and saw the wetness himself. He knew what was happening- he had been having lessons with Doc. Charming knew there was a strong chance he'd be delivering this baby.
"Well it's just as well I brought these then." He said, pulling a pillow and some towels down from under his shirt. He put the pillow down at the base of the tree and helped lower Snow down before placing the towels around her. He took her hand and looked her dead in the eye. "We're going to be ok." He promised her. "We're going to have our baby and she's going to be fine. You're going to be fine."
"I don't know if I can do this." Snow cried, shaking her head against the tree. "We don't even have a home, Charming! We can't raise her in the middle of the forest. That's no life for a child."
"We will work it all out Snow I promise you. But for now all you need to focus on is getting her into the world, ok? I'm right here. You can do this."
A few hours later and Charming was now holding his new- born babe. Still covered in blood, still attached to her mother. Charming placed her on her mother's stomach, fumbling around his pocket for a knife to cut the cord. Snow reached down and touched her baby's soft back.
"Hello there." She whispered to the screaming baby. "It's alright, you're safe. Mommy and daddy are right here."
"Yes we are." Charming confirmed as he found the knife and carefully cut the cord before grabbing a towel and cleaning Emma off the best he could. "See, you're nice and clean now. I know what you want, and it's ok, mommy can feed you now." Charming smiled as he handed Emma back to her mother who wrapped her in the blanket and instinctively held the baby to her breast. She was amazed at Emma knowing just what to do. It gave Snow what she needed most right now- hope. Hope that just like Emma, Charming and Snow would know what to do soon enough. Yes, she was in a lot of pain but that would pass in time. Yes, they were alone with nothing in the middle of a forest, but she had survived as a bandit and Charming had been raised a shepherd, they would find a way. The important thing was they had each other. Regina had failed. She could not separate them. Charming was right, they were going to be ok.
