Grieving- Part 2

A guest asked for a oneshot of Charming's reaction to "Grieving". Trigger warnings: miscarriage is discussed in this chapter.

He knew Emma was hurting. He knew her pain must be unbearable. His pain was different from hers. Not only was he dealing with the loss of his grandchild, but he was dealing with his daughter being in pain and being able to do next to nothing about it. She kept trying to come back to the station, wanting something to occupy her, keep her mind off things. But Charming kept refusing her, knowing it was far too soon. Emma had to deal with her grief. One day, after Charming once again put his foot down on Emma returning to work, Emma lost it.

"Don't you understand? I have to go back!" She yelled, tears beginning to build up in her eyes. "I need to do something! I can't just sit here anymore! If I sit here all I think about is them, how I let my own baby down before they were even born!" Emma smashed her hand against the wall before falling to her knees in tears. Charming came over, crouching down and wrapping his arms around her protectively. He quickly checked the hand she punched the wall with to assess that she hadn't done any damage to it before kissing her head.

"Emma, you didn't let them down." He said soothingly. "There was nothing you could have done, sweetheart. I know this isn't easy for you, but going back to the station won't help. No matter how much you think it will. Honey you're just not ready for it. You need more time to grieve. The station will still be there when you're ready, I promise. I miss my partner. But I won't allow you to step foot in that station for at least another fortnight, alright?" Emma nodded slowly into his chest. She knew he was right. Charming held her close, hoping that if he held her tightly enough all her broken pieces would fit back together again.
