Catching up with dad

themagician1018 asked for a oneshot of Henry visiting Neal's grave.

Henry couldn't believe it had already been a year since his dad's death. Of course, when he died Henry didn't even know that he was his father. He hadn't really gotten a chance to get to know him. He wished with all his heart that he had. He had asked both him moms if he could have some time alone at Neal's grave, just to have a chat with his dad. They of course both agreed. So off Henry went.

"Hey dad." He said nervously, sitting down in front of the grave. "I thought we could have a catch up, and share a coke." Henry placed a can of coke in front of the grave stone and popped open his own can. "So, I remember everything now. My mom- Regina- broke the curse. A lot of stuff has happened in the last year. We defeated the Wicked Witch, but things didn't stay quiet for long. The Snow Queen came to town. She wanted to have mom be her sister. Yeah, she was a little crazy. Apparently she was mom's foster carer for a while, but Ingrid- the Snow Queen- took her memories. Anyway, she's gone now. Things are a lot quieter…I really miss you dad." Henry admitted, tears building up behind his eyes. "It's not fair. I never got to know you. We never got to do any of the stuff other fathers and sons do. Killian and gramps are great- but they're not you. But I'm really proud to be your son. You died trying to save your dad. You made sure the message got to mom so we could come home. I'm sorry we never got to spend more time together. I'm sorry I never got to hear more about your adventures and how awesome you were. Mom's been telling me about some of the things you two did together. It would have been awesome if things had been different and mom hadn't gone to jail and we'd stayed together. We could have had some cool adventures. But I know you were just trying to help mom break the curse so she had a chance to meet her parents. I understand that now. Mom does too, I promise. We're happy, but we both miss you. Grams and Gramps named my uncle after you because of how brave you were. I know, it's maybe a little weird but it's the thought that counts, right?" Henry caught sight of the time on his watch as he took another sip of his coke. "Oh, I'd better get going. I promised everyone I wouldn't be longer than half an hour. I'll come back soon, promise." Henry got up and placed his hand on the top of the grave stone, some tears spilling out. He left the coke there, it didn't seem right to take it back. He felt a lot better after the catch up. His dad might be dead, but as long as Henry was alive he'd never really be gone. Henry would make sure of it.
