Alone

A guest asked for a oneshot of Henry being hospitalised as a toddler and Emma (who kept him) not being allowed in meaning both are scared and alone.

Every time Emma heard her baby boy cry out for her another piece of her heart chipped off. He had just suddenly started wheezing terribly. He couldn't breathe and Emma had to rush him to hospital. But as soon as she had they told her she wasn't allowed in the room. She had to let the doctors and nurses do their job, but what about her job of being his mommy? Emma could only stare through the tiny window through to where the medical team were doing their best to get Henry breathing properly again and pray that he'd be alright.

All Henry wanted was for his mommy to come and cuddle him and tell him he'd be ok. He didn't like this, it was scary. People kept saying things that he didn't understand, why wasn't his mommy coming?

Of course Emma wanted to be with her little boy right now, to hold his hand through this. But she too wanted someone to lean on. Someone to hold her and say that he would be fine soon. But Emma didn't have anyone- she never did. All she had was Henry and she could not lose that.

As soon as the doctor gave Emma the all clear to come in, she practically tackled him to get through the door. She hated the sight- her little man with wires coming out of him. But at least he was breathing.

"Hey buddy." She said softly, running a hand through his hair. "How you doing?" His bottom lip quivered and Emma's heart melted. "I know sweetheart. I know you're scared, but it's ok. Mommy's right here now." Emma sat herself down on the chair beside his bed and took hold of his hand, refusing to let go even long after he fell asleep. The brief time they'd been apart taught Emma something- she would never be separated from her son again.
