Old friends

A guest asked for a oneshot of a conversation between Charming and Anna about what happened to Ruth.

emmafan, I know you asked for a couple of redos of certain chapters, but if I wrote redos of the same chapter tweaking it for different people I'd just be doing the one chapter over and over again. I hope you understand!

"It's been nice to see you again." Anna said, hugging Charming. "Again, sorry about the Joan thing. I didn't want some people knowing who I was. Not that I didn't trust you. But I didn't really know you so how could I trust you. Not that you didn't look trustworthy…"

"Anna," Charming chuckled "it's alright. You don't need to apologise. I completely understand. I'm sorry we'll have so little time to catch up, but I know you have a wedding to get to." He said with a cheeky smile.

"Yes, it's so strange it's finally happening. Though it doesn't seem like thirty years."

"Tell me about it." Charming agreed. A thought occurred to Anna.

"Oh your mother! I can't leave without saying hello to her. She was so kind to me, I would love to see her again…what's wrong?" Anna asked, seeing Charming's face fall.

"My mother…passed some time ago." Charming told her.

"I am so sorry! I didn't mean to…"

"Anna, it's not your fault, you couldn't have known. She died way before the curse hit. In fact, it was kind of a part in it you might say." Charming caught the confusion on Anna's face. "Well you see, a horrid King in our land had cursed Snow to make her unable to have children. This was before our wedding. Around the same time one of his men attacked my mother with a poisoned arrow. I couldn't let her die, so us along with a brave knight travelled to a lake with magical healing water. When we got there, because I'd already killed the evil Siren that lived there, the water had dried up. There was only enough for one sip- but one sip was enough to cure something. At this point, I didn't know about Snow's curse, just that my mother was poisoned. But my mother knew. She tricked Snow into having the water so we could have children. She died not long after making sure Snow drank it. If she hadn't we wouldn't have had Emma and Rumple wouldn't have had his curse breaker." Charming had tears in his eyes, reliving the painful memory. Anna too was teary. She reached out and placed a hand on Charming's shoulder.

"I understand how you feel. My parents died going to find a cure for Elsa- they thought it was for the best. Your mother was very brave doing that. But that makes sense seeing as she was a very brave woman. As long as you're here to pass on her memory, she's never really dead, you know?" Charming nodded.

"I do. I can see little bits of her in Emma, it's nice." Charming said with a smile. Anna hugged her friend.

"I wish you all the best, David."

"You too, Anna. Good luck with your wedding. Good luck being married to Kristoff." He teased. Anna laughed as she pulled away.

"Thank you, but I think we'll be just fine."
