Monkey business
Jade Star asked for a oneshot set during the missing year. Regina and Charming are recovering after being hurt by Zelena's flying monkeys. Snow is helping take care of them and isn't happy they got themselves hurt.
"You can't escape me!" Zelena yelled furiously as Charming, Regina and the small army they had fought the monkeys. "You will not win! This is my castle now!"
"I think you'll find it belongs to my wife!" Charming bellowed, taking down another monkey. They were all careful not to kill any in case it was someone they knew. Out of the corner of his eye Charming saw a monkey sneaking up behind Regina. "Regina! Behind you!" He warned. She whipped around, but was not quick enough. The monkey clawed at her arm leaving a deep gash. Regina gasped, the wound preventing her from using her magic to defend herself. He sprinted over to defend her. In doing so, the same monkey caught him on his sword arm. This attack wasn't going well, and Charming didn't want to risk anyone else getting hurt. "Retreat! We will try again when our numbers rise!" He commanded. Charming grabbed Regina's good arm and pulled her along with him as the other army members ran alongside them with Zelena cackling victoriously in the background.
Snow worked silently as she changed both her husband's and her step-mother's bandages.
"I still can't believe you tried to attack her." She grumbled. "You're both lucky you've just got scratches."
"Well that's the last time I play pest control." Regina sniped. Charming took the his hand that wasn't injured and placed it on Snow's belly, which was beginning to show the baby growing inside.
"That is our home. Our child deserves to live safely in their home." Of course that statement hurt all three as they remembered Emma and Henry still separated from them. Permanently separated from them. It was going to take a lot of time to get used to. That's why Charming was so determined to get their home back- to get this child right. Regina was more in it for taking down the mucus coloured witch.
"Yes, and our child deserves to have their father in their life- and their step-grand-"
"Don't finish that sentence." Regina warned. She was nobody's grandmother. They were the only grandparents in the room. Snow smiled, she knew Regina was excited to have the baby in her life no matter how hard she tried to hide it.
"Alright...well, you both get my point. We will defeat Zelena, but not by getting yourselves hurt. Please, I can't lose anymore family." Regina looked away, unable to cope with the emotion. Charming cupped Snow's cheek.
"You're not going to lose anyone, I promise. I refuse to leave you. I refuse to leave this child." He promised. Snow placed her hand over his as they stared deeply into each other's eyes. Zelena would not break up this family.
