Grandparents
emmafan asked for a oneshot of when Emma goes back in time she goes back alone. She meets her maternal grandparents and mother as a baby... Well done to those who get the little reference! I know it's not exact but I thought it was close enough! Thank you all for the amazing support by the way guys. I know I don't always respond to reviews but please know I read every single one and your kindness brightens my days :)
Emma's knees collided painfully with the hard floor as she fell. She groaned, her head still spinning. When she heard a woman scream, her eyes flew open, ready to run from the danger. She looked in the direction of the scream and saw a slightly familiar looking woman with a baby in her arms. The woman had a very elegant dress on, and the walls were made of stone...it dawned on Emma, she was back in the Enchanted Forest. The woman cradled her baby close to her chest.
"Who are you?" She demanded. Emma held her hands up defensively.
"Please, it's ok. I mean you no harm." She said quickly. Emma had to think of a fake name quick on her feet. She didn't know if telling her real name would be wise. "My name is...Diana. I come here from a far off Kingdom called...Maine. I didn't mean to arrive here, it was an accident. I was sucked into a portal." She explained. The woman still looked suspicious but nodded slowly. Suddenly, a man (who also looked vaguely familiar to Emma) came running into the room, sword at the ready. He didn't even see Emma at first, he just ran to the woman and infant.
"My lady, are you alright? Is Snow White alright?" He asked, gently running his hand across the baby's dark hair. Emma gasped, realising why the pair looked so familiar. She'd seen them in Henry's storybook...and in her mother, self, son and brother's facial features. These were her grandparents- Leopald and Eva. Leopald looked over, noticing Emma for the first time.
"Are you disturbing my wife and child?" He asked abruptly. He looked Emma up and down, her clothes were strange. She looked like a woman but was wearing what appeared to be man's clothing.
"No, not at all. She is my guest Diana." Eva interrupted. Something inside her told her she should protect the woman. She certainly saw relief flash across her face. Leopald nodded, now smiling.
"Then I do apologise Miss?..."
"Windsor. Diana Windsor." Emma said, again thinking fast. Leopald came over and Emma instinctively curtseyed. She was quite shocked at herself having never done one before, it must have been part of her royal blood instincts. Leopald picked up her hand and kissed it.
"I'm sorry my daughter is in an odd mood today. Otherwise I'm sure my wife would allow you to hold her..."
"Oh that's alright." Emma said, horrified at the idea. Holding her own mom as a baby...she was sure that would cause giant bats to swoop down on them or something. "Maybe another time." Leopald nodded, suspicious. Most people jumped at the chance to hold their daughter. She was the fairest child in the land. There was a short knock at the door.
"Enter!" Leopald called. A timid boy came in- somewhere between twelve and fourteen years old.
"Sorry sire. The knights have requested I come and fetch you to officially end the day." He squeaked nervously. Leopald smiled at the boy.
"Eva, this is one of our squires whom I suspect will make a wonderful knight one day. His name is-"
"Lancelot!" Emma blurted out without thinking. She recognised him from when she'd came to the Enchanted Forest the first time, although he was much older then. Leopald saw the Lancelot didn't recognise this Diana at all. Leopald motioned for the boy to leave and he went racing off.
"Alright, who are you really?" He ordered one Lancelot had left. Emma could have kicked herself for being so stupid. "Well come on, out with it. Or do I have to send for some guards to lock you in the dungeon?" Leopald would just have them escort her from the palace, he wouldn't really be so cruel. But he did want the truth from her if she'd been around his wife and child. Emma took a few steps backwards.
"If I told you the truth you wouldn't believe me." She said honestly. Leopald fixed her with a firm but fair stare.
"I promise that if you tell me the truth, I shall believe your story however unrealistic it might seem." He said calmly. He'd heard enough strange things in his time to not be put off by them. Emma gulped, she felt backed into a corner. If she didn't tell him now she'd be locked in the dungeon and she would never be able to return home.
"I'm from the future." Emma said, hiding the majority of her true identity. "I just want to go back to my own time and realm." Leopald's eyes narrowed.
"You're telling the truth, but not all of it." He said simply.
"Please, don't be frightened of us." Eva said gently in a voice that sounded just like Snow's mothering voice and made Emma's heart ache for home. Emma nodded to the baby Snow White.
"She's my mother." She muttered quietly. Leopald and Eva gasped. This was their granddaughter? "I can't say anymore." Emma added quickly. "I've already said too much. It could affect the timeline." Eva got up with Snow attached to her hip and moved closer. Both just stared at Emma, now seeing the family resemblance. "I just want to go home." Emma repeated. A thought occurred to Eva.
"You didn't just say time, you said realm. This castle should belong to Snow White now. Why aren't you in the Enchanted Forest?" She asked. Emma shook her head.
"I can't tell you that. I can't tell either of you anything." They both nodded, understanding.
"You're a grown woman now, I guess we are both passed in the time you're in. But what of Snow White and your father? Are they settling into old age? Do you have any siblings?" Emma looked down.
"Please...tell me my Snow White isn't dead?" He begged. Emma shook her head, causing them both to relax.
"No, both she and my dad are fine, please. Don't make me say anymore."
"Yes, of course. We understand child." Leopald couldn't help but address her as such knowing this woman was his granddaughter. He hoped he lived long enough to at least meet her as an infant, he bet she was as fair as her mother. "Can we help you get home?" Emma could think of only a handful of people able to help- and some were very much a last resort.
"Do you recognise the name Blue Fairy?" She asked. Both Leopald and Eva nodded.
"Yes, she's the head of all fairies. Do you wish her help?" Eva asked. Emma nodded eagerly. Eva used her free arm to point out the large window of Snow White's nursery. "Head into the centre of the forest and wait for nightfall then call her name. If pure and honest of intention, she will answer you."
"Forest, dark, name. Got it. Thank you." Emma went to run out of the room, but Leopald caught her wrist.
"Be careful." He said sincerely, looking into Emma's eyes. She nodded. It was a strange feeling this was the first and last time she would ever meet her grandparents and she wasn't even born yet. Eva's gaze echoed the same message. Leopald let Emma go and she sprinted off as fast as her legs allowed her. Home was calling.
