Chapter ten:

It is the next day.

The staff seem to be giving Mello and Near a bit of relaxation time today after the stress they were subject to the day before.

Near is currently enjoying some time to just watch out of a window taking in the nature outside.

Mello and Matt in the meantime are carefully moving around the outside area checking out things trying to figure out a way out of here. They stop at the gated area where they can see the front area.

Matt checks the lock that is placed there while Mello keeps a watch out for anyone.

Mello is glad that he is able to keep his demons in check right now. He doesn't need to be sent back to isolation area, not when they need to escape and reveal what had happened to make the staff be accountable for it.

"Hm. It is a pretty heavy lock. It needs a special chip to be able to be unlocked. From the looks of this there also seems to be an alarm. So any attempts to even disable it if we had the stuff we needed would be noticed." Matt informs Mello who glances over his shoulder at him. "However. Since this is clearly a spot to evacuate in case of a fire or anything, there has to be a way to remotely open it surely."

"And how are we going to find out where that is located?" Mello presses causing Matt to hum in thought.

"The staff only areas. However they are not easily accessible."

"So how do we get in there?" Mello snorts starting to feel a little annoyed at how obvious that it is going to be impossible.

"With a distraction." Matt turns with a smile to Mello who narrows his eyes wanting to punch him in the face.

"Why can't you do it? You would do just as fine of a job and not be thrown into those isolation cells." Mello growls out and Matt shrugs looking away as he drops his smile.

"I could. However it wouldn't make as big of a scene as if you did it. Plus you might not be thrown into isolation. If we get Near in a nearby spot there is a chance that they might just rush Near to you in order to try to calm you down. However they would mobilize enough staff just in case. Giving me the best chance to get in there to look for the remote access. Plus." The red head slightly smirks to himself. "I would know what to look for. Instead of you guessing what electronic stuff will open it up."

"What if they don't use Near?" Mello crosses his arms over his chest still not liking this plan.

"Well we plant the idea into their minds. I maybe casually mention to the staff the idea and it'll plant that idea in their mind. Then we can move on to the next part with ease. Also don't worry. If you do end up in the isolation area then I will plan a break out plan for you."

Mello sighs turning away trying to not become anymore annoyed by this. "Fine. I will do it. Just let me know when we have to do this." His agreement gets a happy sound from the other.

"Great! We're making wonderful progress on escaping! Let us go before we get caught!" Matt hurries off with Mello following.

The two of them make it to Near and sit on either side of him as if they just are there to hang out. Sure they are there to hang out with their shared friend, however it is also a cover for what they were just doing.

Mello really hopes that this will end up working.

Another day passes…

Mello doesn't doubt that the doctors are planning another day of testing with him and Near. He is walking around hoping to delay the inevitable of it happening for now at least. He slows to a stop when he spots Matt up ahead looking troubled. He gets a slight handwave from the other as if to shoo. He is glad that it looked like just Matt moving his hand in his thinking. He ducks around a corner ready to listen.

Some footsteps approach after a moment. "Matt." A lady's voice speaks up sounding worried. "What has you so distressed?"

"I was just thinking over somethings." Matt sounds like he has stopped in his pacing. "If Near can calm down Mello magically. Then why don't we use him to help Mello when he loses control?"

"Well that would be putting Near in harms way." The doctor doesn't sound so sure about it making Mello doubt that this will work.

"Perhaps. However you could try it. Having steps in place ready to step in if Near needs help right? I want to help Mello if we are going to both be Near's friends. I just really think that this could work. If you would just give it a try."

There is silence from the other person for a few moments as if processing what Matt is saying. "And if Near does get hurt. Would you be able to live with the knowledge that it was your fault?"

"I would take responsibility." Matt confirms sounding quite sure of himself. "I will even apologize and explain things myself to Near. Please. Let us just try it. It'll probably save a lot of grief and worry of having to secure Mello in isolation each time. Then having to bring Near down so they can hang out supervised. If they are meant to help one another as friends then supervised time only will not help Near at all. Sure it will help Mello. But it should be beneficial on both ends. Near needs time to come out of his shell to someone in privacy before we can work on getting him to even react to that person around anyone else, or if anyone else is watching. Surely you must have realized this."

There is another silent pause before the doctor responds. "How about talking to the other doctors?"

"Gladly."

"I will call a meeting. It'll delay any healing helping however this may be important enough for such a thing to happen. Come." The doctor leads Matt away.

Mello leaves the area in the opposite direction to not be caught. He doesn't have doubts that Matt will be able to convince them about this. Now all that is left to do is wait for Matt to share when the next part is going to come into play. He finds Near and approaches him. "Say. Want to draw?" He inquires before glancing around. "No one is around." He turns back to Near leaning in close. "What do you say?"

"Okay." Near whispers to Mello who nods his head.

Mello helps Near up from his sitting and they head off to find the room where they can enjoy some craft time together. "Me and Matt are going to get us out of here. The doctors cannot get away with what they did to us." He whispers to Near. "Just trust us and go along with whatever we do. We will keep you safe."

Near nods softly, so softly that it is easy to miss, before just looking down.

"You want this too?" Mello is relieved to get a soft nod from Near.

"I don't like this place at all anymore." Near whispers and Mello understands.

"When we hold them accountable we will find someone that can help us recover and all." Mello promises to Near who quickly gives him a trusting look before turning to just stare off into the distance. He really hopes that someone out there really can help them.
