Four parents
Fefisgbf13 asked for a oneshot of Emma having great adoptive parents and Snow and Charming struggling to deal with it. I've set this as though Emma broke the curse herself as a child.
It was a tricky situation for all to get used to. A balance between Emma spending time with her adoptive and biological parents. It had taken a lot of convincing to get Odette and Derek (Emma's adoptive parents) on board. Emma had known from the minute she'd seen Snow White and Charming's pictures in the storybook "Mary Margaret" had given her that all was not as it seemed in Storybrooke. Her adoptive parents had moved here after Mr Gold had offered her dad a job. He arranged to meet them at a small diner just outside of town, saying that Storybrooke could be tricky to find. Emma had joined the second grade at Storybrooke elementary but had quickly found herself bonding with the fourth grade teacher Miss Blanchard after joining her good deeds after school club where this term's project was visiting the patients in the hospital and making them feel better. There Emma had seen who she believed to be her father. A couple of months and a poisoned dessert later and here Emma was. The town awakened. Not that her adoptive parents knew all the details. All they knew was two DNA tests proved that Charming and Snow were Emma's biological parents. It had taken a lot of convincing, but they eventually had them believing that they didn't give Emma up willingly (although didn't mention the Enchanted Forest or magical wardrobes). After that Odette and Derek had agreed to let "Mary Margaret" and "David Nolan" share custody of Emma after seeing how happy Emma was having them in her life too. Of course Snow and Charming still found this tricky, after all, they didn't want to give Emma up. But they understood that Odette and Derek Swan had raised Emma from when she was a newborn for eight years. They had no right breaking those bonds. It was agreed that every second weekend Emma could go home with Snow and Charming from school. Charming was waiting at the gate for the pair and grinned widely when he saw them.
"There's my girls'" He said, his heart fluttering widely when Emma ran into his arms. "Have a good day at school?" Emma nodded. "Good, let's get you home where there's some chocolate ice cream in the fridge."
"Neat!" Emma explained excitedly walking between her parents. She knew they got upset when she went back to her other parents'. But she loved them all, and wanted all of them in her life. She slipped a hands into each parents' hand.
"You guys know I love you right?" She asked. Snow and Charming stopped walking and looked down at their daughter.
"Of course we do, what would make you think we didn't?" Charming asked gently.
"I just don't want you thinking I love my other parents more than you." Snow and Charming shared a pained look. They hadn't realised Emma had been picking anything up.
"Emma honey, of course we don't think that." Snow said, leaning down and running her finger down Emma's cheek. "Yeah it's hard sharing you when we didn't want to give you out, but we understand that they're your parents too. We know that they love you and you love them, so we can cope." Emma wrapped her arms around her mom's neck, wanting to make sure she knew that she loved them. Snow's heart leapt as she wrapped her arms back around Emma and picked her up. Emma reached out an arm to her dad. He came closer and Emma placed her arm around his neck. Yes this situation was hard, but Emma was happy. At the end of the day, that was the most important thing.
