Allergy scare
8745vvah asked for a oneshot of Emma having an allergy and Snow being mad and worried because she didn't know. Sorry for any inaccuracies here. I'm only allergic to kiwi fruit and haven't seen the need to go to my GP to tell them so don't have much experience with serious food allergies!
"I'm home!" Came Emma's voice followed by the slight slam of the front door. Snow chuckled to herself. Emma was never happier than when food was on the way. She came back to the house every Tuesday to have lunch with Snow (Charming doing the same thing on a Thursday). Snow loved Tuesday and Thursday lunchtimes now. She loved getting to spend some one on one time with both her husband and daughter while Neal was at preschool. It also gave her a chance to be creative, never wanting to prepare the same lunch twice.
"Good morning?" Snow asked as Emma made her way into the kitchen. Emma nodded, sitting down on one of the stools at the island.
"I sense it's about to get even better." Emma said perkily, she loved her mom's cooking. It made a change from a boring sandwich at her desk. Snow smiled, sliding an omelette onto each plate.
"Well the proof of the omelette is in the eating." Snow joked. "Bon appetit." She said cheerily, sliding Emma's plate over to her and sitting down with her own plate. Emma practically smacked her lips as she cut a piece with her knife and fork happily placing it in her mouth. There was certainly something different about it, but Emma couldn't place her finger on it even as she swallowed. Then, too late, it hit her. It was a fish omelette. It had been so long since Emma had any fish she'd forgotten the taste. She couldn't eat fish, she was terribly allergic. Her throat started to swell and Emma was struggling to breath. She doubled over trying to focus her breathing.
"Emma!" Snow said, panicking. She got up and rushed to Emma's side. "What's wrong?!"
"Allergic." Emma gasped out. She shakily pointed a finger in the direction of the hall. "Bag...pen." Snow understood immediately, Emma must have an EpiPen in her bag for emergencies. Snow rushed out to the hall and tipped out the contents of Emma's bag. She scanned it quickly and saw the pen. Grabbing it, she rushed back to Emma and carefully but quickly took her off the stool and lay her on the floor. Snow was grateful for the warm summer weather leading Emma to wear shorts- it gave Snow quick access to Emma's leg. She yanked the lid off and slammed the syringe into Emma's leg. Emma gasped, the relief almost instant. She began to sit up and Snow quickly moved behind her, supporting her. "I got it." Emma said weakly.
"Tough." Was the only response Emma got. She sighed, knowing her mom was mad. After a moment Snow eventually asked it. "Why did it never cross your mind to tell your father or I you had a serious allergy?" Snow asked sternly.
"I forgot. Fish is easily avoided. If you'd given me a big hunk of fish of course I would have mentioned it, but it was hidden in the omelette, so I didn't know it was there to tell you."
"Well to avoid any repeats- because I never want to have to do that again- do you have any other allergies?" Snow asked. Emma shook her head. "Alright then." Snow wrapped her arms around Emma's shoulders and pulled her closer. "That was terrifying." Snow said, shaking slightly.
"I'm sorry." Emma said guiltily.
"It's alright. We know now. Do you need to go to the hospital?" Emma shook her head. "If you're sure then. Couch it is.
"Wait, what?" Emma asked.
"Oh you don't think you're going back to work after that do you? You're on couch rest so I can monitor you. I'll call your dad so he knows."
"But mom I'm-"
"Just on my way to the couch? Good, then scoot." Snow finished Emma's sentence for her, making a shooing motion. Emma got up grumbling under her breath. Something told her maybe the hospital would have been a better option.
