Stupid baby
A guest asked for a oneshot of Emma being pregnant and Neal being worried his sister will not have any time to play with him anymore. Sorry to people who asked for a sequel to one of the last two time portal stories- but because I said they were the last I can't do sequels without contradicting myself!
While everyone fussed over Emma's swollen bump Neal sat in a huff on the other side of the room.
"Stupid baby." He grumbled to himself. His mom and dad had explained to him that his new baby niece or nephew was growing inside Emma until they were ready to come out. Neal didn't want the baby to come out, and if they did, why couldn't they be a big boy or girl like Henry? That would be a lot more fun. Since Henry was big Emma didn't need to make sure he was ok, she could spend lots of time playing with him. Now that the baby was growing bigger inside of Emma she couldn't play with him as much. She couldn't run like she used to, or pick him up and spin him round, or roll about on the floor, or build Lego castles that go all the way from the floor to the ceiling (well, Neal thought they did anyway). All she could really do with him was colour in, and that was boring. Even then she could only do it for so long before she had to move because she was feeling sore or take a nap because she was tired. Mommy and daddy tried to explain to him that carrying a baby was hard work, but Neal just didn't understand. Babies were so small, how could it be so tricky? So no, Neal would not join the rest of his family in patting Emma's belly and asking weird questions like how her feet felt (honestly, the baby was growing in her belly, not her feet!) or how long she felt she had to go. If she had to go, why didn't she just go pee? When mommy or daddy asked Neal if he had to go and he said he didn't know they'd take him just in case. Why weren't they doing that with Emma? Neal made sure to keep his back to everyone so it was clear he wasn't talking to them. He could hear daddy saying he was just shy today. Humph! He was not shy, he was mad! Why should some stupid baby take away his sissy?! Neal didn't hear daddy helping Emma up so she could waddle like a penguin over to him.
"Well hey there buddy." Emma said softly. "What you doing over here? Why aren't you talking to me or Henry?" Neal didn't answer; he just pretended to still be playing with his train. Emma had been waiting for this. For a while now whenever the subject of the baby came up he became awfully quiet. "Worried about the baby coming, huh kiddo?" Neal stiffened, how did she know? "I understand, I was worried when you came along too." Emma admitted. Neal turned and stared at her.
"You were?" He asked, surprised. Emma nodded.
"Yeah I was. I was really worried that when you were born mom and dad wouldn't have time for me. But I didn't have to be worried; they still had lots of time to do stuff with me- just like I'll have lots of time to do stuff with you."
"Promise?" Neal sniffled. Emma held her arms wide open.
"Promise." Neal shot up and wrapped his arms around Emma's bump. He was still worried. He didn't things would ever be the same. Yes, he was jealous of the baby. It wasn't fair that things would change for him and it wasn't his fault. But there was nothing he could do to stop the baby coming, and Emma promised that she would still play with him. He guessed that was a good enough deal.
