Coffee jitters
A guest asked for a oneshot of a little Emma with her adult mind sneakily taking coffee. She becomes jittery and unable to sleep thus keeping her parents up all night. By the next morning they have to put her down for a nap but she won't go down easily!
Emma could feel her whole body buzzing like a bumblebee. She couldn't keep still at all- she just had to move. The more she moved the better she felt. Emma didn't understand, she'd only had one little cup of coffee. Normally she'd have twice that amount, but her little fingers could only close round the handle of the smaller teacups.
"Well I hate to say it but we told you so." Charming grumbled as he saw Emma's legs twitching uncontrollably. Emma's parents had told her that until she was returned to her own age and size coffee was out of bounds, that she wouldn't be able to handle it…apparently they were correct. Emma didn't want to admit it though so she sat there silently, her little legs twitching away. It was three in the morning and there was no signs of Emma falling asleep. Snow and Charming were staying up with her in case something happened. Snow had felt her little heartbeat and was worried at how fast the coffee had made it. She didn't think there was any need to take her to the hospital but decided it was best to wait up just in case. Emma had told them to go to bed, but wasn't surprised when they ignored her. They seemed to be doing a lot of that lately. Apparently because she was small her opinions mattered little.
Eventually at half five Emma fell over. Snow and Charming were then able to get a little bit of sleep themselves before Neal woke them up at seven…also waking up his sister.
"He's so noisy this morning." Emma groaned as she came into the kitchen with her hands over her ears. She saw her dad slurping down some coffee. "Hypocrite." She grumbled. Charming chuckled.
"You'll be allowed coffee when you're big again Em. And maybe you wouldn't be so grumpy with your baby brother if you hadn't had any coffee and you'd fallen asleep at a reasonable time." Emma rolled her eyes but she couldn't really argue with him.
Just about an hour later Snow and Charming could see that Emma was drooping over her bowl of cereal.
"Alright honey you head on back to bed." Snow said, whisking the cornflakes out from beneath her. "One of us will come get you in a couple of hours so you don't oversleep and get yourself into a bad sleeping cycle. Emma's eyes narrowed.
"Are you basically sending me for a morning nap?" She asked. Snow smiled.
"Well, you could say that." She responded. Emma shook her head and folded her arms tightly across her chest.
"Nuh uh. No way. I am not going for any naps. I might look little but I am thirty years old." Snow and Charming suddenly looked very serious to Emma.
"Emma, I think you'll find you are going for a nap." Charming said calmly. "So up you go, now." Without warning Emma suddenly burst into tears. Emma didn't even understand why herself. She just couldn't stop crying!
"No!" She wailed. "I- I- adult!" Snow and Charming were completely alarmed, they hadn't expected that. Snow scooped the screaming little girl up into her arms. She couldn't stand the sound of either of her kids crying. She bounced Emma up and down on instinct until she quietened down.
"There, that's better." She said softly. "Emma, you need to go for a nap honey. You're overtired and it's not good for you. If you don't sleep now you'll end up crashing in the afternoon and not able to sleep tonight. So your dad's going to take you up to your bed, ok?" Emma nodded into her mom's shoulder. Snow smiled and shifted Emma over to her dad who carried her like she was the most precious thing in the world up the stairs. Snow smiled as she watched them disappear into Emma's room. She knew her husband wouldn't be able to help himself. He'd be tucking Emma in, telling her some sort of bedtime story and then kissing her little forehead as she drifted off to sleep. The image in her head warmed her heart. She was rather grateful for Emma's magical slip. It was one of the best things that had happened since the curse had broken.
