Saviour dog
Bluerose921 asked for a oneshot of a sequel to "Puppy" where Emma and the dog are older and out playing in the forest when they are attacked and Rollo defends Emma.
"Fetch boy!" Emma shouted happily as she through the stick for Rollo to go and get. Emma loved getting to take Rollo out into the forest by herself. She'd only been allowed to go by herself since her tenth birthday a couple of months ago. Emma knew her dog loved being out in the woods. He loved all the interesting smells, the muddy puddles, the birds and squirrels he could chase up trees. And most of all playing fetch with Emma. Rollo had quickly become Emma's best friend. She would do anything for her dog, and it appeared he would do anything for her too.
The sound of frantic running startled Emma. Rollo quickly dropped the stick and came to her side, staring in the direction of the noise. A moment later one of the black knights appeared through the trees. Emma backed up slightly as Rollo growled warningly at the man.
"Jackpot." He said menacingly as he pulled out his sword. "The Queen will be so happy when I bring home one of Snow White's little sprogs."
"Regina isn't the Queen my mama is!" Emma said defiantly with a stamp of her foot. She didn't feel so brave when he started walking closer.
"Whatever kid. You're coming with me." The guard advanced on Emma but Rollo lunged forward and bit their ankle. The guard howled in pain and used their free foot to kick Rollo off. Rollo yelped as the guard stamped down on his leg, but he daren't go near Emma again in case the dog attack him again He fled, limping off into the forest.
"Rollo!" Emma cried, rushing to her loyal dog's side. He got up and nuzzled against Emma's chest, Emma wrapped her arms around him. "You're the best dog in the whole wide world, do you know that? Come on buddy, let's go home."
Charming came out of the room where Doc was looking over Rollo to where Snow sat with Emma and nodded.
"Doc says he's going to be fine Em." He promised his eldest. Emma sighed in relief. "You can see him a little later, he's still sleeping from the potion Doc gave him while he fixed up his paw. Boy am I glad we got you that dog. Even still, no more going out alone into the forest. Clearly Regina's men are keeping tabs on us all."
"But I wasn't alone, Rollo saved me." Emma pointed out. Snow stroked through Emma's hair and looked at Charming, both thinking the same thing. What would have happened if Rollo wasn't there? Charming kneeled down in front of Emma.
"I know baby, but we don't want him getting hurt again either, ok? He's a very brave dog, but Regina's knight could have killed him or you today. No more unsupervised trips to the forest right now, alright?" Emma nodded against her mom's chest. She didn't want Rollo getting hurt again either. It had been a long day for the little girl.
"Come on," Charming said before picking her up. "Let's get you to bed." Emma peaked over her shoulder to where Rollo was sleeping in the other room. She blew the dog a kiss.
"I love you buddy." She whispered before leaning her head against her dad's shoulder and falling asleep.
