The drugs talking

Isabella Poulous asked for a oneshot of Emma injuring herself and refusing to let her mom help her.

So, I don't know how much I'll be able to post until Sunday as I'm away for the weekend with my family and I don't know if there'll be internet. I hope you enjoy today's chapters anyway!

"Emma the fact that you won't let go of your arm tells me that you have hurt your shoulder. Would you please let me take you to the hospital?" Snow begged for what felt like the millionth time that day.

"There's no need for us to go to the hospital, my shoulder's fine. Yeah it's a little sore but it'll be fine by tomorrow. I've had a couple aspirin, that should help. Snow knew those pills were barely going to make a dent in it. Emma was trying to break down the door to Happy's house (he'd managed to lock himself in and Emma was fed up waiting for both the Landlord and the locksmith). She did manage to break it down, but had obviously dislodged her shoulder in some way in the process. Charming was with Neal at Philip Jr's birthday party so Snow was left with her stubborn daughter. She'd tried everything she could think of to convince Emma that they had to go to the hospital. Enough was enough, she was going to have to be devious about this.

"Well fine then. Seeing as you say you're completely fine will you come with me to get the groceries? I could use a hand, there'll be a lot of bags." Snow had no intention of going grocery shopping but Emma didn't need to know that. Emma grimaced at the thought of carrying bags- her shoulder was in agony- but she wouldn't tell her mom that. She hated hospitals. Nodding, Emma followed her mom out to the car.

Not long later Emma noticed there was something weird about her mom's route.

"You're taking the scenic route." Emma commented.

"If we were really going to the store then yes I would be. But we're going to the hospital." Emma opened her mouth to argue but Snow was having none of it. "Oh no Emma, you are going into that hospital if I have to drag you inside kicking and screaming. Don't think I won't." Emma shut her mouth and just glowered at the dashboard. She knew there would be no stopping her mother now.

A couple of hours later Snow was pacing up and down the corridor of the hospital. She was glad she'd dragged Emma here, she'd dislocated her shoulder. Whale came out to find Snow.

"That's her shoulder sorted. You can go in there now. She might be a bit confused, she's had a lot of morphine." Snow nodded, quickly brushing past him to see Emma. She was lying on the bed with a silly smile on her face and her eyes not focusing on anything in particular. She seemed to clock onto her mom being in the room.

"Well hey there." She said merrily. "Fish doctor sorted my arm out, but I feel all funny." Snow bit her lip to stop herself laughing at the fish doctor remark. She came and sat beside Emma on the edge of the bed.

"Well Whale says you're free to go home now under the promise that I look after you so you ready?" Emma nodded, but it was like a kaleidoscope was blocking her normal vision. "So many colours." Emma sighed in awe. "So many pretty colours. What's your favourite colour mama?" Emma asked her. Snow sucked in a sharp breath, her heart skipping a beat. That was the first time Emma called her mama. Snow could feel tears building up behind her eyes.

"Well, there are two answers to that. The first is a proper colour, but not my actual favourite colour anymore- green. My real favourite "colour" is white." Snow answered her.

"White? Like your name?" Emma giggled. Snow smiled and shook her head.

"No, like a swan." She told her. Emma's eyes widened.

"Swan, like my name! Because I'm your swan." Emma said. Snow knew Emma would never say any of this if she wasn't drugged up so decided to make the most of the moment. She cupped Emma's face and shook her head.

"No, not my swan. My cygnet. Always my cygnet." She answered her.

"So does that make you the mama Swan?" Snow chuckled but nodded her head.

"I suppose it does." Emma's face scrunched up in concentration.

"What exactly do mama swans do?" Snow helped Emma into the wheelchair to transport her to the car.

"Well, they use their big strong wings to break the necks of anyone who tries to hurt their cygnets I guess." Snow answered her. Emma still had the lazy smile on her face as she leaned back to look up at her mom.

"Well then I'm glad I found my mama swan then." She said. Snow's heart was doing the conga as she gently tapped Emma's nose.

"And I'm glad I have my little girl cygnet."
