Public tantrum
A guest asked for a oneshot of a little Emma with her adult mind getting mad at her parents for treating her like a baby so she throws a tantrum in front of a crowd.
Dantlebeed your request has already been covered.
Inside Emma was fizzing. Her parents had just about reached the limit of her patience. Yes, she currently might look like a toddler but she wasn't, and they knew that. Emma had tried to understand to begin with. She knew her parents were jumping at the chance to be proper parents to her, but they were taking it too far. They were slowly getting worse. For example: Snow had started out with just helping Emma getting in and out of clothes when she asked for it. She then moved onto just assuming Emma needed her to help with everything (goodbye privacy). After that, she was saying embarrassing phrases like "arms up" in a babyish voice reserved normally for Neal. Then she'd hit the worst today when Emma woke up to clothes laid out that she hadn't picked for herself. And her parents had clearly been shopping. Emma was expected to wear a dress. A girly, flowery summer dress. Apparently all her other clothes were in the wash so it was the dress or nothing. Reluctantly, Emma obviously picked the dress. Her dad was being just as bad. He was no longer referring to Snow and himself as even just mom and dad. It was mommy and daddy for everything. Again, complete with the babyish voice. Well now Emma had reached her breaking point. If they wanted her to act like a child then she would. Charming had reached over to cut up her burger for her, but Emma snatched the knife and fork away.
"I can do it myself." Emma grumbled. Snow had already insisted that Granny give Emma the kiddy plastic cutlery, that was bad enough! Charming raised an eyebrow.
"Emma, come on. You know your fine motor skills aren't developed enough. Let daddy help…"
"No!" Emma screamed. The diner went silent, turning to face the family. Snow and Charming looked at Emma in shock, this wasn't like her.
"Emma, you're making a scene." Charming said quietly. "Calm down and let me cut up your food for you…"
"I said no!" Emma yelled. She was really going to let loose on them. Let the town see just what sort of parents the oh-so-great Snow White and Prince Charming were. Emma threw herself onto the floor and started to have a full scale tantrum. She let out days of frustration at her parents. If they wanted a kid they could have one- tantrums and all. Emma felt someone placing hands round her middle and picking her up from the floor. She screamed, eyes screwed shut, and flailed her legs. She heard her dad give an oomph as a kick hit him in the stomach. But other than that neither he nor Snow gave no reaction as they carried her from the diner. Together they just managed to force Emma into the stupid pink car seat they'd been making her go into. Snow then placed Neal in his little car seat on the other side before she and Charming got into the front.
"We're not driving off until you calm down." Snow said calmly. "But Emma if you flail out and hit your little brother so help me there will be consequences." She warned. Emma made sure despite her wild wails she was nowhere near Neal, she didn't want to hurt him either. Eventually, she calmed down into ragged breathing.
"Are you ready to talk now?" Charming asked her. He took her silence as a yes. "What was that about Emma? I was just going to cut up your food so you can eat it and you screamed the place down. Do you have any idea how embarrassing that was?" Emma knew it was embarrassing, and she did feel a little bad for them, but she just had to burst.
"Well you've been desperate for me to act like a baby." Emma grumbled. "So I acted like a baby. Maybe now you'll start treating me like the adult I am." Snow and Charming both sighed. They didn't believe that was completely why Emma had her tantrum- just partially. They also believed her little body was having little people emotions.
"Emma, like it or lump it just now you are little." Charming said matter of factly. "We will make more of an effort to not baby you as much but that doesn't excuse you from that kind of behaviour, do you understand?" Emma nodded glumly in the backseat. "Good. You will go home and think about your behaviour and how kicking me was wrong." Emma bit her lip to reply that she was thirty and not sitting on the naughty step. She was as well swallowing this down. She folded her arms across her chest and didn't say another word. Snow and Charming gave each other a sideways glance. Emma was clearly acting younger than she realised. But it was alright, they didn't really mind. Part of parenthood was taking the good with the bad, after all.
