Nobody is really your friend
Anonymous asked for a oneshot of Emma's feelings after events with Lily.
I should have known better. I could have kicked myself. By now I should have known not to trust people, not to put myself out there for them. People hurt, people lie, people don't care. No matter what anybody tells you they're always looking out for number one. Long ago I'd promised myself that I would stop swimming through oceans for people who wouldn't jump puddles for me. There's very few things that hurt more than when someone breaks your trust, especially a friend. I had promised myself that I wouldn't allow myself to make anymore friends. After years of being told people were "busy" or their life was "too hectic" to make time for poor little Emma. Bull hickey! Nobody's too busy, if someone wants you in their life they'll make time. But even the ones who make time…they've always got a hidden agenda. People are only ever friendly when you're useful to them- when you have something to offer whether you know it or not. Maybe you're better at maths than them, maybe hanging out with the unfortunate little foster kid makes the teacher give them better grades. Whatever it is, they're all friendly when you're able to give them something. As soon as you're no use to them- boom. That's you, completely bombed out of their life. They give you the cold shoulder. You're like a ragdoll, only picked up when they're bored. Well not me, not any more. I would not be used ever again. At least the pain Lily had caused me had done that- reminded me that I shouldn't make friends, shouldn't trust anyone. The only person people are loyal to is themselves. I would never again let someone use me for their gain or entertainment. I would close my heart off completely- I would never trust again.
