Becoming the part
Just one I concocted myself. Thought I might try getting under Regina's skin given what Snow asked her to do last week So spoilers from the last episode! Warning there is a murder described in this chapter!
"We want you to go under cover with them and help us stop their plans." Snow had asked her, a determined look in her eye. Regina had seen a similar look on her own face- one she used whenever she was trying to defend Henry. But that didn't mean she was up for this.
"And you think they're just going to welcome me into their coven with open arms?" Regina replied sarcastically.
"Regina you used to be one of them…"
"They think I'm a hero now. They'll never believe I want in-"
"So find a way to make them believe."…
The conversation went round and round Regina's head as she tried to sleep that night. It was not going to be an easy decision to make. If she went in with the witches- there was a chance they'd bring out the darkness in her. Was that a chance she was willing to take for the Snowing brat. No, Regina had to remind herself, she was willing to take it for Henry. But even still, her dreams that night were filled with the moments in her life she was reminded of the darkness inside of her that was threatening to come out…
"I'm telling you Henry nothing good will come from that girl especially if you're soft on her!" Xavier ranted at his son. He was unaware his seven year old granddaughter was listening in at the door. If he spied her Regina knew she'd get a beating so she made sure to stay silent.
"Father that's enough." Henry said boldly, trying to silence his father. "Regina is a good girl, stop putting her down." Henry was incredibly fond of his daughter and to him she was perfect, but his father just scoffed at him.
"Her head is forever in the clouds. Somebody needs to whack it back down to the ground." Regina scampered away, terrified of her forever angry grandfather beating her head. What was his problem with her? She hadn't been bad…had she?
"Daniel I'm telling you mother is onto us." Regina hissed. "We can't be together. I won't let her hurt you because of me…"
"Hey," Daniel gently interrupted her, placing his hand on her cheek "we're going to be ok. We have true love, surely your mother can understand that?" Regina shook her head sadly.
"My mother knows little of love." She said bitterly. "She doesn't love me or my father. I try to love her but she makes it so difficult." Daniel wrapped Regina up in his arms.
"I know, my love, I know. But your heart is so big that you struggle through." And for just a second Regina believed him. That was only a day before her world came tumbling down and her mother killed her love and Regina realised having no heart was so much easier.
"You've failed." Kurt snarled at the cruel woman. "You'll never get my son now. He's free." Regina smirked but inside she was both seething and hurt. She truly just wanted to love Owen. She thought he loved her too. Yet again she was wrong. Yet again she was reminded that she was unlovable- and anybody that was foolish enough to love her died. Maybe the boy should learn that lesson. Yes, he would learn that lesson. Regina might not have her magic but she still knew how to kill. She took the knife in her hand and slit his throat. There was a small gargled cry before Kurt's eyes rolled into the back of his head. Eventually he slumped down into a ball on the tiles of her own kitchen. She stepped over the now corpse to her phone. She would have Sidney clear this mess up for her. She just didn't care anymore. Nobody was left that cared for her, so why should she care about anyone else? She let her heart succumb to the blackness…
Regina woke with a start. No, that wasn't her anymore. She had her son, she had her reason to stay light. If she had to pretend to the witches that she had never really changed then so be it- but they could never make her regress, not now.
