The glue

EmmaAthens2013 asked for a oneshot of Henry's whole family (including Regina) finding out he's having surgery when Whale calls.

"Explain this to me again." Regina growled as she paced furiously up and down the waiting room. "Why was my son alone walking through a forest?" Henry had been taking a stroll through the forest and had tripped. Unfortunately when he stumbled he managed to impale himself on a branch. Luckily he had his phone with him and was able to call an ambulance before passing out. He was rushed to the hospital where he was taken for emergency surgery. By the time Emma and Regina were alerted he was already in theatre.

"Our son is growing up." Emma reminded her impatiently. "He's thirteen, Regina, we can't have somebody watching him twenty four/seven. Yeah I'm scared too but don't take this whole thing out on me."

"Well he was with you this week so…"

"Regina enough." Charming said with an air of finality as he placed a protective hand on Emma's shoulder. "I know you're stressed, but it's not Emma's fault. It's nobody's fault, Henry had an accident and now he's in the best hands possible. All we can do is wait-"

"Actually, your waiting is over." Whale said as he came into the room. Emma and her parents stood up and Regina turned to face Whale. All four had expectant, terrified faces. Snow and Charming each slipped a hand into Emma's, trying to offer some form of comfort. "The operating was a success. Any fragments have been removed. Luckily it didn't pierce his kidney like we were worried it might have. You can go and see him, but only two at a time please. He's still unconscious. The family all gave brief nods before quickly bustling out of the room and shooting off down the corridor towards the room Henry was in. Snow and Charming hung back when they reached it.

"We'll wait outside until you're ready." Charming said, understanding that his mothers should be the first to see him. Emma and Regina both nodded before going into the room and each taking a seat either side of Henry. Regina gently reached out and placed a hand on his cheek. Emma held his hand, careful of the tube sticking out of it.

"He'll be alright." Emma croaked.

"Of course he will be." Regina snapped. She wasn't coping with the situation well. Emma understood, she knew what it was like to struggle with sharing emotions. But they didn't need to share their emotions with each other- or anyone for that matter. They just had to find a way to work together for the good of Henry. It wasn't always an easy thing to do, especially when the situation was like this. But they always at least tried to make it work. For him.
