They couldn't deny that it stung watching the small clip. There she was- their little girl- calling another couple mommy and daddy. Giggling as he swung her up in his strong arms and threw her into the air several times as the woman laughed merrily filming the whole thing. It hurt even more knowing that it couldn't be long after this clip was taken that the Swans realised they were having a baby of their own and would give theirs away. Unlike Snow and Charming they would give Emma away knowingly into a system that was flawed and at times cruel. And yet, it was good to know that during at least one point in their daughter's childhood she had been happy, safe and loved. That was all they had ever wanted for her from the second Charming put her in that wardrobe. They never wanted Emma to suffer. They watched as Emma sat down on the man's lap enjoying the peanut butter and jelly sandwich and blackcurrant juice the woman brought her.
"Does mommy make the best sandwiches Em?" The woman asked. Snow took in a sharp breath, it was harder hearing her call herself mommy. She and only she was Emma's mommy, not some coward who returned her daughter like an item past its sell by date.
"No, daddy!" The man chirped in. Charming felt the same reaction Snow had. He was Emma's daddy, not some stranger to her. They doubted Emma even remembered the Swans. They weren't sure if they wanted her to or not. They were her parents, and they didn't want to share the honour.
