Far too close

A couple of people have asked for a oneshot based from the 4x20 promo of Snow falling to the ground.

I didn't see her until it was too late. She was meant to be staying in the house with Neal and Emma whilst Maleficent and I dealt with Lily. It was funny how your child changed who you allied with. Maleficent knew that Lily would be gunning for Snow and I, and she did not want her daughter to go down the dark path, just like we didn't for Emma. She realised that Rumplestiltskin didn't care about Lily at all so to protect her daughter she had to work with us.

I didn't want Lily to get hurt either. I was already responsible for her growing up separated from her mother. I could empathise with the pain I had caused both Maleficent and Lily and I- along with Snow- will forever feel deep remorse for the path we chose. But just because I don't want Lily to get hurt doesn't mean I want her hurting my family either. That's why I had told Emma and Snow to stay at home, to let me deal with this. Lily had never turned into a dragon before, not even Maleficent knew how powerful she could be. I would not risk losing either of my girls. But of course, Snow would never listen to me. I should have known that. She felt just as badly as I did and wanted to help solve the problem. Snow had only arrived on the scene when Lily dove to the ground and caused the earth around her to shudder. Maleficent and I were further back than Snow. Snow couldn't hold her footing and stumbled, hitting her head off of a rock. Lily saw her opportunity and took it. She shot a giant flamethrower roar at my wife.

"No!" I roared, rushing forward to protect her. From behind me Maleficent created some sort of barrier than caused the dragon Lily to roar in what appeared to be pain.

"I didn't want to do that, I really didn't, but I will not let you do this. You don't want to be a villain Lily, trust me." Maleficent warned her daughter. But I was hardly paying attention to either of them, I was too busy checking over an unconscious Snow.

"Please wake up." I begged. "Snow I can't do any of this without you. I need you, our children and grandson need you. Please Snow, wake up." I cried, a single tear slipping down my cheek. I knew true love's kiss could not save us now.

I can honestly say I have never been so relieved as I was when Snow's eyes opened.

"She missed." She croaked. I let out a hearty, relieved, laugh.

"Never do that to me again." I told her, before claiming her lips. I could not lose my soulmate.
