Heirlooms
A guest asked for a oneshot of Emma getting jealous of Snowing giving Rosie a family heirloom. Snow sees this upsets Emma and surprises her with the tiara Eva gave her.
"Look Emma!" the five year old said proudly, holding up a broach that had belonged to her grandma Ruth. "Isn't it super pretty?"
"Yeah kid." Emma said flatly. Rosie had been given the broach as a present for her fifth birthday. Emma didn't see why a five year old needed a broach. She'd probably smash it within a week. It was rather careless of her parents to give such a young child something so delicate… Emma had to stop her train of thought. She was getting jealous of her baby sister. She wasn't a kid, she shouldn't be getting jealous. She just had to suck it up. They were getting to raise Neal and Rosie and not her. Neal would one day inherit their father's sword and Rosie had the broach. Emma just had to deal with it.
Emma didn't realise that of course her parents had picked up on her jealousy. They didn't mention anything because they never had any intention of leaving Emma empty handed. All she had to do was wait a couple of months until her own birthday and she would get her own heirloom.
When Emma's birthday arrived she had no idea what was inside the jewellery box. So when she opened it and saw the tiara she never dropped the box in shock.
"That tiara belonged to me and my mother before me. It belongs to the eldest daughter in the family. That tiara was always going to be given to you on the first birthday we could spend together." Emma understood her mom's subtle hint that they had picked up on her jealousy. Emma smiled up at both of her parents.
"Thank you." She said, voice filled with emotion. "I promise to take very good care of it."
"We know you will." Charming said, kissing her cheek. "And then one day you can pass it onto a daughter or granddaughter of your own. Happy birthday Em." Emma looked lovingly at the tiara she'd been presented with. Maybe she was a proper princess.
