What grandpas are for
Dancing4every1 fan asked for a oneshot of Henry receiving a call from an old friend in New York and going to Charming for advice.
Charming was lounging in the living room watching Frasier when he heard footsteps shuffling into the room.
"I'll be through to bed soon Snow." He said lightly, assuming it was his wife. "Just finishing this episode."
"Actually grandpa, it's me. I was wondering if we could talk?" Charming turned round and saw his grandson standing in the doorway looking nervous. He immediately switched the TV off.
"Of course buddy. Come on in." Henry shuffled over and sat on one of the armchairs. "Now, what's bothering you?" Henry sighed thoughtfully.
"It's just I had this friend Nathan in New York. He called me earlier today and left a message wondering where I had gone. When I left with mom to come here I thought we'd be back in a couple of weeks and that's what I told any friends. I don't want to lie to him, I don't like lying to people. But I just don't know what to say to him. I mean, even if I leave out the fantasy stuff how do you explain just suddenly moving without lying?" Charming could see his grandson's predicament. He was a good boy, and lying would prey on his conscious.
"Well, first I would text him back rather than call, leaves less room for more questions to be asked without thinking time. Second, I would tell him that your mom reconnected with her parents and decided it would be better for you both to be closer to family. No lying but a plausible excuse." Henry stuck his upper lip out and nodded slowly as he thought the excuse over.
"Yeah, I like that. Thanks grandpa. I'm going to go text him just now before bed." Charming reached over and ruffled his hair.
"Any time champ. Go on up to bed and have a good sleep." Henry was seriously impressed. His grandpa was seriously smart!
