Lassa
"You know it's going to be bad if we get caught, right? I can't go to prison with a baby in my belly." I laugh, following Jesse as we break into the Lighthouse at night. My heels are in my right hand, long since ditched with how many steps we have to go up. Jesse glances back at me with a smile, eyes skimming over my body and making me blush. I went to Camp Half Blood this morning for my first checkup with Will, and he told us we're having a son. Jesse told me we needed to celebrate, and told me to dress up for the night, so I'm wearing the dress I wore when I told him I was pregnant: White linen floor-length spaghetti-strap racerback v neck with my hair down in a waterfall braid. Makeup just the way Lacey taught me: Natural and bringing out my features.
"Don't worry about it. Sunburn isn't far away. If we somehow get caught, We'll just hop over the edge and let him catch us."
"And expose the Half-Blood world to the mortals?" I giggle. He rolls his eyes and takes my hand.
"The mist would cover for us, you know that."
"I do. Good ol' Hecate."
"So many Stairs." He huffs. "C'mon. Almost there."
"Jesse, why was it so important we go at night after they're closed?" I ask as he gets into the main light room. I gasp seeing a couple people: A security guard and an operator, but Jesse just winks at me as soon as they turn around and snaps his fingers.
"You two should go downstairs to the giftshop for the next hour." He says. Their eyes glaze over and they mummer their agreement and walk past us and down the stairs. I let my breath out but cross my arms at Jesse.
"Not cool. You can't just go around misting mortals, Jesse."
"It's a special occasion. C'mon." He says, and opens the door to go outside on the balcony. I step out, and he closes the door behind us, wrapping his arms around my waist and kissing my neck, making heat go through my body. Last time I got turned on this fast, well, I got pregnant.
"Easy, Jesse." I say with a shaky breath.
"You're so beautiful, Thalassa." He whispers, sending shivers down my body.
"You don't look too bad yourself, Jesse James." I say, tilting my head backwards to kiss him under his chin. I'm not lying. Tonight he's wearing Khaki Jeans, a short sleeve white button up he left unbuttoned, and black converse. He's strong, toned, and tan and smells like the Ocean.
That's something we started doing not long after we got together, wearing certain scents. I use a strawberry and vanilla body wash, perfume, and lotion. Strawberries are sacred to Hermes. Jesse wears Sea Breeze for me.
"Look at that view." He says in a low voice. "It's almost as stunning as you are." He's right about it being beautiful. The sky is lit up with stars and a full moon, and the lighthouse light is spinning in a circle behind us. "Close your eyes, Lassa." He whispers, and I smile and do as he says. He pulls me back a couple steps and turns my body to face right.
"Okay, I'm closing them. Now what?"
"Now open them." He says with a soft voice, and I do as he says. When I open them I see Jesse on one knee in front of me with a crooked smile on his face, wind blowing his hair, and a beautiful ring pinched between his thumb and index finger.
"Jesse…"
"I've wanted to marry you for years. Before you told me you were pregnant. Before we slept together. Pretty much since I was 15 years old. If there's something good to say about someone, I can say it about you. You're Brave, Kind, Gentle, Tough, Selfless and the only person I can imagine spending my life with. Thalassa Beth Jackson, Will you marry me?" He asks. I put both my hands to my face, needing a second to remember how to breathe. He smiles wider. "C'mon, is this really that much of a surprise?"
"Yes!" I finally say.
"Yes this is a surprise, or yes you'll marry me?" He asks.
"Both! Yes, Jesse!" I say, feeling my eyes well up and spill over, falling to my knees to kiss him. He pulls back and takes my left hand, putting the engagement ring on. It fits perfectly and it's beautiful. "I love it. It's so simple and elegant."
"I thought so too." he smiles.
"So when?" I ask him with a smile.
"Well, you're due in six months, right?"
"Yeah."
"And I'm leaving on September first to go to boot camp. So sometime between now and then."
"That's fast." I say and we stand up, me looking over the railing and him wrapping his arms around my waist, resting his chin on my head.
"Well, it's called a shotgun wedding for a reason." He chuckles. I sigh.
"Never thought I would be one to have a shotgun wedding." I say. He tightens his grip a bit.
"I know. I hate that I forced you into one."
"You didn't force me into anything. I said yes of my own free will, and last month I didn't exactly tell you to slow down." I say. He scoffs.
"No, you didn't. But it doesn't matter, I should have protected you better."
"I wouldn't say I need protecting from you, Jesse." I whisper. He scoffs again.
"Especially from me. But what happened happened, and because of it we have a baby on the way. I wouldn't trade that for anything." I lean back into his chest.
"Me either. So. Back to a date?"
"How does now sound?" He asks. I look back and see him smiling.
"I'm serious, Jesse."
"So am I. I knew you'd say yes. I put together something." He says. My heartbeat picks up and I turn around so I'm facing him.
"Are you serious?"
"I told you, yes." He laughs. "Your mom helped me, using that wedding planning binder you apparently started when you were ten. If you'd rather plan it yourself, we can call it off and do it sometime in the next month."
"What about a marriage license?"
"I stopped by the courthouse earlier and got it. All you need to do is sign. Unless you'd rather plan it yourself."
"No! No. C'mon, let's go I want to see!" I say and run to start pulling him down the stairs while he laughs. He stops though, forcing me to stop with him.
"First." He says and cups my head with his hand, pulling me closer. "Let me kiss you again. I have so little time to kiss my fiance." My insides melt with the kiss he gives me, hands on my hips and mine are on his torso, feeling just how strong he feels. He's smiling when he finally pulls back.
"Let's take Sunburn, not the stairs." He says, and I nod. We go over to the railing and Jesse whistles, Sunburn swooping down just a minute later and landing on the deck next to us.
Lady Lass, He bows. I'm very excited to escort you to your wedding.
"So formal, Sunburn." I laugh and let Jesse help me on his back, my dress thankfully having a wide enough skirt for me to sit, then leaning into Jesse when he gets on behind me.
"Okay, Buddy, you know where we're going." Jesse says and lightly kicks him. Sunburn takes off over the ocean and Jesse tells me to close my eyes. I pinch him in protest but do as he asks until Sunburn lands on something wooden.
"Can I open my eyes now?" I ask.
"Yes." He whispers in my ear. I blink them open and gasp at what I see before me. We're on the Wavecrest, and it's completely lined with candles and white orchid petals.
"Jesse…" I breathe and turn around. He's wearing a blindfold. "What's with the blindfold, you dork?"I laugh.
"It's after midnight. Can't see the bride on the wedding day. Go into the main cabin downstairs, your mom and Lacey are waiting for you. I was right in assuming you'd want her as your maid of Honor?" he asks, and for a second i feel a pain in my stomach. When I started to picture myself getting married to Jesse years ago, I always pictured Annabeth as my maid of honor. But none of us have seen or heard from her in years.
"Yes, you picked right. You know Lacey's my best friend."
"Ahem." He coughs, making me smile.
"Hey, you're way more than a best friend."
"I'd hope so. Now get going, Thalassa. I want to see you walking down the aisle." He says, and the way he says my name makes my heart skip two or three beats. I step forward and tilt my head up, gently pressing my mouth to his. He kisses me back softly, and I step back before it deepens too much.
"Alright, Jesse. See you soon." I tell him and turn, running down the stairs. I open the main cabin door, and just like Jesse told me Mama and Lacey are there, sitting on the bed and smiling ear to ear at me.
"Excited?" Mama asks. I run over and hug them both.
"I can't believe you put together my dream wedding for me!" I say. Mama laughs and squeezes me tighter.
"Thankfully, you kept it simple, so it wasn't too hard. Midnight wedding on the ocean under a full moon and candle light, only a few people invited."
"I'm going to let Jesse have it later for not giving me time to throw you a proper wedding shower, but for now let's just get you married." Lacey hugs me. I pull back and wipe the first tears from my eyes. I'm sure there will be more to come before the night is over. "Let me go shower and I'll get back out here to get ready. I'm assuming you brought everything?" I ask.
"Yep. And I can't wait to show you your dress! I designed it myself, and the Rhapso cabin kids sewed it. Now go shower!" Lacey laughs and pushes me towards the bathroom. I turn on the water and jump in, exfoliating and scrubbing any trace of sweat, dirt, or makeup I had left on me. When I come back out, Lacey sits me in a chair and gets to work on my makeup while my mother does my hair and sings a song she hasn't sang to me in years, since I was a little girl. It makes me feel so good and sad at the same time, but I force the tears back so I don't mess up Lacey's work.
"There." Lacey and my mother speak at almost the same time.
"You're so beautiful, Lassa!" Lacey tells me as she stands up. "I'm going to go get your dress. Sit tight!" She says and runs over to the closet, pulling out a fabric bag. "Alright, stand up." She tells me and I give her a closed lip smile, doing as she says.
"Any lingerie?" I ask.
"Would Jesse like Lingerie? Or would he like nothing underneath at all?" My mother asks from behind me, still fluffing my hair, in a tone of voice where I know her eyebrows are raised and she's smirking. I try not to blush.
"I-I'm not sure. We've only slept together once, and it was kinda spontaneous."
"Well, Forplay can be really good, so I'd go with the lingerie. I told Lacey to design some that would go with the dress."
"Yeah, It's so cool you have such an open relationship with your mom." Lacey tells me. "Most people would be mortified to talk about this stuff with their mother." She adds, and my mother laughs.
"We still have boundaries, Lacey. I never share anything about my personal sex life. That's private. But I'd rather her learn and get her information from me than other teenagers and the internet."
"Y'all my face is on fire, can we not?" I squeak, making both of them laugh.
"Here you go, Lassa." Lacey tells me, handing me the lingerie. "Go put this on and we'll help you into your dress." She tells me. I head into the bathroom and put it on. It's beautiful sheer lace with a floral pattern. The bra is strapless with a string tie in the back. I put it on and look at myself in the mirror, blushing at myself. Yes, Jesse will like the Lingerie.
I go back into the main room and Mama smiles at me and Lacey squeals.
"Okay okay! You look so sexy, Jesse is going to lose his mind! Now close your eyes and stand here, I don't want you to see the dress until it's on." Lacey says. I do as she says, and hear her unzip the fabric bag. She guides me into the dress, then turns me around and adds a headpiece to the half up curls my mama did.
I hold back a sigh. I always wanted to wear a veil at my wedding, but it wouldn't feel right anymore. Veils symbolize virginity. I gave that up. So, I'm honestly glad Lacey didn't make one.
"And there! Look." She says and I open my eyes, turning to the mirror.
"Lacey! It's beautiful!" I tell her. The dress is a slim fit Silhouette, strapless, high waist, with a vest neckline, floor length, lace, long train, and backless with a criss-cross string lace up on the bottom. It matches the string tie on the back of my headpiece is a circlet made of pearls.
"Oh, Thalassa." Mama says, dabbing her eyes and walking over to give me a hug. "Alright, I'll go get your dad for his first look."
"Is there a photographer on board?" I ask. Lacey nods.
"Yeah, Amber came. She also brought her DJ stuff for your first dance and father daughter dance." She says.
"Y'all thought of everything." I smile.
"We tried to." Mama smiles, going out of the room to get Daddy. Lacey kisses my cheek and goes out too. A couple minutes later, Amber comes in.
"Hey, Lassa. Congratulations." She says. I smile at her.
"Thanks, Amber." I tell her. Amber and I aren't particularly close. She's in the Apollo cabin, a year younger than me, and is considering planning on joining the hunters of Artemis soon. She just wants to turn 16 first. I only heard about it because it was a huge scandal when the rumors started flying, a child of Apollo wanting to join up with Artemis. I remember the last time the Hunters were at camp, and Thalia smirking at the news.
"No problem. Jesse asked me to be here, he has good taste in photographers." She smiles. Someone knocks twice on the door and Amber raises her camera as my father walks in. He opens the door and stops after one step, and Amber flashes a photo.
"Don't cry, Daddy." I say. "If you cry, I'll cry, and I can't ruin my makeup before I walk down the aisle.
"I'll try to keep it bottled up until we're done." He says in a choked voice and comes over, wrapping me in a hug.
"I'm sorry it had to be like this." I whisper in his ear, blinking my tears back. He pulls back and looks me in the eye.
"Don't be, Thalassa. I can't wait to meet that baby when it's born."
"When he's born, Daddy." I sniff. "We went to camp Half-Blood this morning, remember? Will gave me my first checkup. It's a boy."
"My first grandson." He smiles. "I couldn't be happier for you, sweetheart." He tells me, then clears his throat. "Now C'mon, let's get you married." He says and takes my arm, leading me up the stairs. When we get to the top deck, I see chairs have been set up and all who showed up. Jesse is standing at the altar with my grandfather officiating, and Percy as his best man. In the front row My mother and brothers are sitting, and Lacey's boyfriend Sam from the Hephaestus cabin. Bryce and Hamilton are there too, Jesse's brothers front the Hermes cabin. I gasp, seeing Poseidon and Hermes are there as well. Hermes is the most dressed up person here in a three piece suit, while Poseidon opted for khaki shorts and an unbuttoned Navy blue shirt. He looks back and winks at me. My cousin Violet is standing near the front with her Violin. In the corner there's another Apollo kid, Austin, in a DJ booth with a couple of speakers. Lacey is waiting at the mouth of the aisle in a silver bridesmaid dress, holding two Orchid bouquets and hands one to me.
"Ready?" She smiles at me.
"Or not." I laugh.
"Well let's go." She says, and nods at Violet who starts to play. Lacey walks gracefully down the Aisle, and I take a deep breath as I loop my arm with my father's and start walking down the Aisle, looking at who's about to be my husband. He buttoned up his shirt and let the sleeves down, and added a tie. As I walk down he smiles at me.
We get to the front and My grandfather gives me a gentle grin as Violet stops playing.
"Dearly beloved, we're all gathered here today to bring Jesse James and Thalassa Jackson together in Holy Matrimony. First and foremost, who here gives this woman away to be wed?" My grandfather asks and winks at me. My Dad steps forward.
"I do. As well as her father and mother." He says, his voice choked up. I smile at him and kiss his cheek.
"Thank you for including him. But you'll always be my daddy." I whisper in his ear. He squeezes my hand.
"Very well." My grandfather says, and I step up in front of Jesse, and he takes both my hands in his. "Marriage is a gift and institution given to us by the Good Lord above. Normally I'd preach for a while longer, but it's too early for that. I'll sum everything up by saying Marriage is where two flesh and lives become one in love, and Love is the most important thing we have that binds us together. Love is patient, Love is kind, it does not envy, Does not boast, it is not proud. It doesn't dishonor others, it is not selfish, is not easily angered, does not keep record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices in all things. Love always protects, Always trusts, always hopes, and always preserves. This is the love these two are about to pledge to share. So Jesse, please repeat after me. I, Jesse Mathias James," My Grandfather tells him. Jesse smiles and squeezes my hands.
"I, Jesse Mathias James,"
"Take Thee Thalassa Beth Jackson"
"Take Thee Thalassa Beth Jackson"
"To be my lawfully wedded wife."
"To be my lawfully wedded wife."
"To Have and to hold, for better or worse, for richer or poorer, in sickness and in health, as long as we both shall live."
"To have and to hold, for better or worse, for richer or poorer, in sickness and in health, as long as we both shall live."
"I will be the head of the house, the provider, and protector, and I will love you all the days of my Life."
"I will be the head of the house, the provider, and protector, and will love you all the days of my life."
"Alright, Little Lassy." My grandfather winks at me. "Your turn. You still want to do this? Not too late to back out." I laugh at him.
"Not backing out today, Granddaddy."
"Alright then. Repeat after me. I, Thalassa Beth Jackson,"
"I, Thalassa Beth Jackson."
"Take Thee Jesse Mathias James,"
"Take Thee Jesse Mathias James,"
"To be my lawfully wedded husband."
"To be my lawfully wedded husband."
"To have and to hold, for better or worse, for richer or poorer, in sickness and in health, as long as we both shall live."
"To have and to hold, for better or worse, for richer or poorer, in sickness and in health, as long as we both shall live."
"I will be the heart of our house, make it a home, and submit to your headship as the church submits to Christ."
"I will be the heart of our house, make it a home, and submit to your headship as the church submits to Christ."
"Good girl." He chuckles at me. "If anyone has a reason these two should not be wed, speak now or Forever hold your piece." Jesse looks out at the crowd. No one says anything. "Good. Then by the powers vested in me by God and the State of Georgia, I now pronounce you man and wife. You can kiss her now, Jesse." I smile and step forward. Jesse sinks his hands in my hair and I put both of mine on either side of his face, and he pulls me towards him and sinks into a deep kiss. One that leaves me wanting more, and makes me whimper a little when he pulls back.
"Short reception. Then your parents gave us the boat for a honeymoon." He whispers to me as our family cheers. Violet starts playing her violin again and we walk down the aisle together.
Thankfully, the reception goes by quickly. Pictures are taken. I dance with Jesse, Dad, Poseidon, Percy, and my little brothers. The playlist is great. Everyone loves my mother's cooking. At one point, Hermes comes over to us and sits to talk. I try to be polite, but frankly I'm still upset at him for taking Jesse away from me last month. But before he leaves, He leans over to Jesse and whispers something to him. Jesse smiles at me as he walks away.
"What?" I ask and move closer to him.
"These." He says and puts his hand on the table, opening it and revealing two glass marbles in his hand. "Our wedding gift."
"Where to this time?" I smile.
"Anywhere we want. As many times as we want over the next week. They're reusable for 7 days."
"Seriously? That's awesome! It'll be a great honeymoon." I say, then frown, thinking of my parents. "Let's keep this to ourselves though, okay? My parents really wanted to bless us with the boat for our honeymoon. I don't want them to think Hermes showed them up. We'll still set sail and whenever we go somewhere, this is where we'll come back to. Sound good?" I ask him. He smiles and kisses my temple.
"As you wish." He chuckles. We sit and eat, take more pictures, and dance a little more as we wait for everything to wrap up. Towards the end of the reception, Poseidon comes over to us.
"Father!" I smile warmly at him and get up, giving him a hug. He seems surprised at first but returns the embrace.
"My Daughter." He says softly and pulls back.
"I wanted to give you your gift before I left. For Percy's wedding, I gave him honeymoon reservations, but it seems Hermes has stolen my thunder somewhat." He says, just a touch of bitterness in his voice. "But I think I have something better. Lassa, I've watched you from afar your whole life. I love you very much, but because of Zeus I've had to keep my distance. But there's one place Zeus doesn't have eyes."
"The Sea?" I guess. He gently smiles at me.
"Yes, the sea. I've had your room at my palace renovated and made into a suite for the two of you."
"The two of us, Sir?" Jesse asks. "I'm very grateful for the offer, but I can't go. I'm not like your daughter and Percy, I'd drown." Poseidon smirks at him, a twinkle in his eye, then places a hand on his shoulder. A flash of green goes over my husband, making him glow for a moment before going back to normal.
"The blessing of Poseidon?" I gently ask, somewhat awed. My father nods.
"I haven't bestowed it upon a mortal in a long time, Jesse. You won't have the same control over the sea as my children. You can't speak to sea creatures or horses. You'll still get wet. But, you will never be harmed by water. You can't drown, freeze, or be crushed by pressure."
"I- Really, Sir?" Jesse asks, a look of awe on his face. Poseidon smiles.
"The two of you feel free to come visit anytime. I'd like to spend some time with my daughter. And, my grandchild when he gets here." He says, then hugs me again and clears his throat when he pulls back. "Goodnight, you two." He says then disappears into a green mist.
"Did that just happen?" Jesse asks, still pretty much frozen.
"It did." I smile at him, then kiss him gently. Tht pulls him out of his state of shock.
"I knew I made the right choice marrying you, but Damn Lassa, it came with some perks." He jokes, making me laugh.
A few minutes later, we have The boat docked back at shore. Amber has everyone line up with sparklers for us to walk down the aisle between them for send off photos, even though it's everyone else that's leaving. I give my family one last hug each. Percy holds me the longest.
"I love you, Lassa." He whispers. My heart hurts for him. I know he's thinking of Annabeth.
"I love you too, Percy. I'll see you soon. Don't forget to ask me when you need someone to watch my nephew." I tell him. He chuckles and lets me go. I start sailing the boat. Once everyone has gone back inside my parents house, I will the boat to kick up the speed so we're out of sight of the shore soon. Jesse laughs at my hurry and comes over to kiss me.
"Mmmmm." I moan, running my hands through his hair. "You're so good at this."
"Clearly." He laughs, putting a hand on my stomach. "Ready, Thalassa?"
