Milestones

A guest asked for a oneshot of Emma with Henry on his first day of school.

"Are you sure you've got everything?" Emma asked, searching through the little Fireman Sam backpack just one last time.

"Mom." The five year old moaned, tugging on his mother's hand. "Yes, I am sure! I've got my pencil case, my snack, my lunch and my water bottle. Let's go! We don't want to be late! If we get to pick where we sit I want to make sure I'm beside Dylan and Paul." Emma smiled at her adorable little boy. Dylan and Paul were Henry's friends from preschool who would be moving with him into his kindergarten class.

"Alright little man, let's get going." Emma said, letting Henry drag her out of their apartment.

Emma felt a strong mix of emotions as she watched Henry walking hand in hand with his friend Dylan in a line into the school building with his new teacher Miss Thompson. He turned and found his mom in the crowd of parents and waved goodbye to her. Holding back the tears, Emma waved back proudly. Her little man was just growing up so quickly. She knew he'd be absolutely fine, but that wouldn't stop Emma from worrying for the next couple of weeks or so that he was struggling in school. But soon enough Emma would see how wonderful Henry was finding school. Emma knew her little man was a bright button, and that he would go far in life. She just hoped he didn't go too far too quickly.
