Friendship
A guest asked for a oneshot of Emma getting jealous of Snow and Red's friendship and telling her mom she misses MM. Stilesfan1994 I've combined your request in here.
Emma sat moodily in the booth at Granny's and watched as her mom and Red fell about laughing again. Emma was meant to be having dinner with her mom- just the pair of them- but when Snow had gone up to make the order she'd got talking to Red…that was forty minutes ago. This wasn't the first time this had happened. In fact, it seemed to happen every time Emma came to Granny's with her mom and Red was on shift. She had already tried to tactfully interrupt and casually remind Snow why she was here, but her efforts had been in vein. All Emma could do was sit in a huff until Snow came back over a further ten minutes later.
"I just don't get enough time to catch up with her." Snow sighed as she sat back down opposite Emma. Emma had to bite her lip so hard it almost drew blood to stop herself from retorting. Snow picked up on her daughter's bad mood. "Emma, what's wrong?" She asked. Emma just shrugged her shoulders in reply, seeing no point in getting into it. Snow reached across and clasped her hand over Emma's. "Talk to me?" She asked gently. Emma sighed, her mom knew that hand thing was a dirty trick. It always got Emma to open up.
"You know I'm glad that I found you and dad. You're my parents- and I love you…but when I gained a mom I lost a best friend." Emma admitted. "When you became Snow you weren't Mary Margaret anymore, and Mary Margaret was the first proper friend I ever had. Losing a best friend like that is really painful, so it's sometimes hard seeing you with Red…it reminds me of how we used to be and I get jealous." Emma mumbled the last part, worried her mom would think she was acting like a petulant child. But that couldn't have been farther from what Snow was thinking. She knew exactly what Emma meant. She of course would not trade having her daughter back for the world, but as Mary Margaret Emma opened up to her more. She missed that closeness.
"That doesn't have to be the case." Snow said gently. "Just because I am your mother doesn't mean we can't be good friends. We both know our relationship is fairly unique, we are the same age. I can't really embarrass you like most moms can…well I hope not anyway. The point is, just because I'm your mom doesn't mean I'm suddenly not your friend." Emma gave her mom a small smile. If only it were that simple, but she appreciated that her mom was really trying here so she decided not to push the subject.
Just then, Red came over with their food.
"Here we go guys, one fish cakes and mash and one sausage casserole." Red said, placing the food in front of them. "Your mom and I were just reminiscing over a few memories, Emma." Red told her. "I was reminding her of the time she mistook Prince Thomas for your dad when she'd had a little too much mead at a Ball…"
"Red!" Snow spluttered. "She doesn't need to know that!" Emma grinned at the way her mom's face was going scarlet.
"Oh not at all Red." Emma said casually. "Please do go on."
"Well basically she walked up behind him and before I had a chance to stop her she had a good feel at his posterior." Red had to stop as she nearly collapsed laughing. Emma was nearly doubled over herself. "Fortunately both your dad and Ella were very understanding- though we've never let her forget!" Red said, when she stopped laughing long enough to speak. "And now I trust you won't either Emma."
"Oh of course not." Emma said solemnly, before turning and grinning wickedly at her mother. Just because Snow couldn't embarrass Emma didn't mean Emma couldn't embarrass Snow!
