Unlikely hero
A guest asked for a oneshot of little Emma getting lost exploring the forest without her parents. She's almost captured by Regina's soldiers but saved by George. Instead of using having her to his own advantage he returns her to her parents.
"Come out, come out, wherever you are." The black knight said in a dark voice that sent shivers down Emma's spine. But the little girl held her nerve steady as best she could. She wished desperately that her mommy or daddy would find her before one of Regina's scary men did. She wished she hadn't wandered off and gotten lost chasing the butterflies. Now she was alone and very frightened.
Suddenly, Emma felt a hand being placed firmly over her mouth. She screamed into the hand, thinking it was one of Regina's men.
"Don't scream." The voice whispered frantically. "I'm not one of Regina's men. I'm going to rescue you." The voice assured her. Emma was very good at telling if someone was lying to her or not, and this person wasn't. She turned with big, scared eyes to them.
"Please take me home." She whimpered. "I just got lost and I want my mommy and daddy."
"It's alright." The man assured her. He picked Emma up and set her on the front of his horse. "I had a child once myself. I wouldn't like them to be alone and frightened with those men chasing them. My name is King George, what is your name child? And where do you live, do you remember?" George asked her. Emma nodded. She could just make out the tips of the towers (the direction she'd been heading in before one of Regina's men spotted her). "I live in the palace here, I'm Princess Emma." She told him. George's whole body tensed up, how could he not have realised? No wonder Regina's men were so determined to catch this particular child! Here George had his enemy's child right in his clutches…but he could do nothing about it. All he saw now was a scared little girl who wanted to go home. For all he wanted to hurt David, he could not hurt this little girl.
"Alright then." He said gruffly. "Let's go." George didn't, however, need to particularly like the little girl. He made that evident by his silence throughout the whole journey.
The gate was immediately opened for them upon seeing Princess Emma on the horse. Snow and Charming were standing anxiously in the courtyard waiting for her. The moment they saw her they rushed forward and pulled her off the horse into a massive hug. They didn't even notice who'd brought her home.
"Emma, we were so scared." Snow sobbed.
"Princess we thought we'd lost you." Charming added.
"It's ok, George saved me!" Snow and Charming's heads snapped up. Charming curled his arms around Emma defensively.
"I mean no harm." He said honestly. "I have returned the child, I will leave now-"
"Wait," Charming said. George stopped and looked at him. Charming handed Emma over to Snow and extended his hand to George. "You saved my daughter. We owe you a great debt. How can we repay you?" George shook his head.
"Just…leave me in peace and we'll call it even." He asked. Charming nodded, he didn't want any bad blood between them either. The less enemies they had with Emma around the better.
