Medal of honour

BestOncer asked for a oneshot of the Charming family and Hook finding out Emma was a Marine and got the medal of honour.

They had found it while looking through her box. It was hidden away, wrapped up in an old t-shirt from some concert or festival. Snow had only found it by chance when she'd picked up the t-shirt to examine it and the box fell out. Charming recognised the box immediately. It wasn't something a person saw every day. Of course they'd had to explain what it was to Hook, who was just as confused as the rest of them. None of them, including Henry, had ever known Emma had at any time been in any branch of the army. When they'd got her through to explain she just shrugged it off like it was no big deal.

"What else does an eighteen year old with no home do?" She said. "I signed up the first chance I got. I was there from eighteen until twenty four. I left after I got the medal and went into bail bonds" Emma explained.

"So, what did you get the medal for?" Henry asked, he'd been desperate to know since finding out. Emma's face paled, she hated reliving this, and it's why she never told anyone about her past in the armed forces.

"I, um, I got it for bravery. Another marine stepped on an IED- Improvised Explosive Device- and there was blood…everywhere. And, flesh." Emma shuddered. "It had blown both his legs off and part of one of his arms. I dragged him to safety. End of story and end of marine conversations." Emma said with an air of finality. Snow and Charming desperately wanted to share how proud they were of her, but understood Emma's need for silence on the subject. But it wouldn't stop either of them, or Henry and Hook, being fiercely proud of the bravery she had shown.
