Less is more
Razzledazzle asked for a oneshot of Snow finding out Emma is a picky eater whilst they're out at a fancy restaurant for some bonding time. She ends up taking them home and making them grilled cheese. I hope you don't mind a slight little edit that I've made…
"This all looks delightful." Snow said as she perused the menu. She and Emma hadn't really spoken much over the last few months, they'd both been leading very hectic lives. But Snow really missed just hanging out with her daughter. She missed the rare chances that she got to spoil her. So she'd finally slammed her foot on the brake of life and told- not asked- Emma that they were having dinner at The Red Lobster Inn, the table was booked for seven pm and Charming would take the boys to play catch in the park. She smiled across at Emma, and quickly noticed the obvious uncomfortableness on her face. The truth was, Emma squirmed in posh places. Fancy food made her feel uneasy. Growing up she was used to own brand foods mostly (assuming she got fed at all). Proper big brands were a rare treat in themselves, let alone food like steak cooked to taste, roast monkfish or crème brulee. She still didn't feel worthy of anything like this. The food, the attentive service, it was all a bit too much. But she wouldn't dare say anything, she knew her mom had gone to a lot of trouble to arrange this. But Snow had picked up on her uneasiness, even if she didn't know all the ins and outs.
"You know what, come on, we're leaving. Grab your coat."
"Wait, what?" Emma said, surprised, as her mom grabbed her hand and pulled her out of the seat. "Mom, you've been looking forward to this dinner for ages! Why are we leaving?!" Snow decided telling Emma it was because she could tell she was uncomfortable was a bad idea, it would just make her feel bad, even though there was no reason to. Snow didn't care at all where they spent time together, as long as they were together. Emma loved Snow's grilled cheese sandwiches. Maybe this night would be a lot more fun if they were curled up on the couch watching a cheesy John Travolta film together.
