The girls had gathered in the kitchen about thirty minutes ago. They had been loud and laughing but now, not a sound could be heard and everyone had to admit it was a bit worrying.
Sato took the matter in his own hands and entered the quiet room only to gasp and almost faint in shock.
Walls were covered in flour, sugar was floating near the ceiling, the oven smelt like smoke and the six girls had the decency to look ashamed.
"What the hell happened here ?" He croaked. Seeing his beloved kitchen in such a sad stated broke his heart.
"Well… " Momo was looking at the floor, her hair white with flour and a streak of… was is butter ? on her forehead.
"It's Aoyama-kun's birthday. We wanted to bake him something but… It didn't work that well." Uraraka admitted, half-hidden behind Mina.
Sato's frown deepened.
"What did you want to bake ?" He was afraid he'd regret getting implicated in all this later but he couldn't leave them like that.
"A tarte tatin. It's a French dessert…" Mina scratched the back of her head. "But, to be honest, none of us is that gifted in a kitchen."
"The website even says it is an easy recipe." Hagakure's voice explained. He could see her shape under the flour too.
"Sato-kun, you bake and your cakes are always so good." Uraraka said, her head poking from behind Mina again, "Would you agree on helping us ?"
He gulped, trying to compare the pros and cons. He sighed loudly, rubbing his brows.
"Alright, I'll help you. But !" He looked sternly at them one by one, "you have to clean your mess the second that cake is in the oven." They nodded happily and Uraraka stepped out from her hiding place.
He gathered them around him and did not even glance at the recipe once.
"It really is an easy thing to bake." He shrugged when Jirou tried to hand it her phone with the instructions. "I've already done it."
The girls gushed, stars in their eyes.
"You really are a lifesaver, Sato-kun !" Tsuyu croaked, the bag of sugar clasped against her chest.
He stood slightly to the side, giving instructions and orders, slapping Mina's hand away when she tried to dip her hand in the dough.
He kept an eye on Uraraka and Momo who were peeling potatoes on the other side of the kitchen. Momo almost cut off her finger twice before he stepped in and help Uraraka himself.
When they finally put the tarte in the oven, he crossed his arms seriously and looked at them.
"Time to clean, ladies !" He watched them with attention, cringing when Uraraka released the sugar that had still been floating above them. It fell on Hagakure, covering her and helping the flour in revealing her shape to the world.
The girls were quick and efficient and the kitchen was shining in no time. They left him with the task to check on the cake. He felt them gathering around him when he opened the oven to take a look at it. It wasn't quite ready yet.
"Thank you for your help, Sato-san." Momo smiled at him, handing him the box of mochis Uraraka had taken from her shelf in the cupboard.
"No problem, really." He smiled and popped one in his mouth. "Cooking is always funnier with friends." He gave the box to Mina. "And I'm sure Aoyama will be happy." They seemed relieved at his admission.
Mina had already send a message to the class group , asking them all to meet in the living room at 7:00 this evening. She had even made sure that Kirishima brought Bakugou with him.
The girls were so excited it was hard for them to quiet their giggles. A weightless Uraraka was bouncing from one side of the room to the other, her friends grabbing her ankles to push her faster. The second she strayed from her path, Tsuyu's tongue was around her middle to pull her back.
Momo was stuffing her face with mochi in a strange unlady-like way he had never seen. Her body was producing confettis and decorations that Jirou, Mina and Hagakure placed around the common area. From her place near the ceiling, Uraraka stuck banderols and balloons with Sero's tape.
Five minutes before seven, everything was ready. Everyone, save for the birthday boy, was in the living room, waiting.
Momo and Mina were tasked with getting him out of his room. They walked him to the dark living room. He didn't know what to expect but was happy to spend some time with his classmates on this special day?
When the elevator rang open, they waited a whole five seconds before Kaminari switched on the light and the whole class screamed "Happy Birthday !"
He looked delighted at the sparkling confettis and floating around the room and the glitter balloons on the ceiling.
He was kissed and hugged and the group of squealing girls finally brought the cake. Everyone sang him Happy Birthday and he tried very hard not to share a tear of emotion. It was the first time that friends prepared him a surprise and he was touched.
The French dessert would have won his heart if the rest of the party hadn't already. He even was gifted some sparkling socks and a pair of sunglasses.
Uraraka floated to the ceiling and, with a small pin -courtesy of Momo- she pierced the balloon, flooding the room in glitters. The girls knew it would be hell to get rid of them and to clean but the look on Aoyama's face was worth it.
She also tried to convince Bakugou to stay a little longer when he tried to leave after thirty minutes but he almost blasted her across the room. She had to admit that he didn't look as scary with glittery-hair, which made Kirishima laugh so hard he couldn't breathe.
The girls were relieved the surprise was a success and promised Sato to ask for his help the next time they would tried to bake something, so as not to ruin the kitchen ever again.
