It was not that late but it was already getting dark as the setting sun was almost entirely hidden behind the tall buildings.
Uraraka had gone to the conbini to buy some mochis because she had been craving them for days. They were rather expensive, but without their sweet taste life seemed bitter.
On her way back to UA, an uneasy feeling settled in her gut. She walked faster, ducking in a side alley to cut through the block and reach UA faster. She wasn't scared, really. If she wanted to become a pro-hero she couldn't afford to be anxious about going back home on her own. But she wasn't stupid. She knew that with her UA uniform on, people would stare at her. She also knew that, without a hero license, she couldn't use her quirk in public without her and the school getting in troubles. She was pretty sure that this gut-feeling of being followed, even if she didn't see anyone suspicious, was a warning.
It turned out cutting through the block it wasn't that good of an idea as, the second she stepped out of the main road, a hand coming from someone she couldn't see grabbed her arm roughly and pushed her against the wall.
She turned on herself, pushing where she thought the person was but was met with thin air. She opened her mouth to scream but a second invisible hand pushed against her mouth. Her wrists were held above her head and she couldn't even move enough to touch them to send them flying.
"Don't move. Uraraka Ochaco." Someone said, close to her ear.
How did this person know her name ? The UA Sports Festival maybe ? Yeah, that was a dumb question.
"We like little girls who wants to be heroes like you very much." He added.
We ? What did he mean, we ?
"We'll be nice to you if you don't struggle and try to get away." A second voice growled next to her other ear.
Shit. Think, Ochaco, Think !
She opened her mouth under the hand and bit it. She heard a yelped and her mouth was freed. She felt movement on her right and lifted her knee. She grinned wickedly when she was met with something rather soft, and she pushed harder. Another yelp and she felt the man taking a step back.
She was going to do the same with the other man when she was punched in the guts.
"Don't play stupid, little girl." They laughed. "We don't really care about you, we just need to put pressure on UA and you happen to be our new tool." They grabbed her jaw. "We don't care if you cooperate or not, we don't care about the state you'll be in at the end of all this."
She struggled against the hand holding her wrists. She could feel the cement unpleasantly scratching her skin. With a frown, she looked where she thought the man's face was and spat. She smirked. He didn't like it and punch her stomach a second time, then a third time. Her breath was short and she coughed, her breath short. Her head lolling forwards a little at the lack of air.
When she looked up, the fire in her eyes was brighter than it had ever been. She wouldn't go done without a fight, quirk, or not.
She was going to knee them again when she heard a growl. She really hoped there wasn't a third attacker. The man she had kneed where it really hurts suddenly appeared next to her. He seemed pretty young, maybe in his twenties. He leaned against the wall, next to her. He was definitely way too close for comfort.
"Oï, what the hell you doin' here ?" She recognized the voice. She turned towards him with wide eyes. She had never been so happy to see Bakugou, ever. She smirked again. With Bakugou by her side, these men were doomed.
The invisible one who was still holding her was startled and she used the opportunity free one of her wrists. She threw her elbow on the side, meeting the man's ribs and put her palm flat against him. She sent him flying against the wall opposite her.
Even if she couldn't see him, she heard his body crashing against the wall and saw the dust flying around him. Bakugou was looking at where the body was in surprise.
"Two of you then ? Alright with me !"
Before she could react, the blond boy propulsed himself against the man that was now visible and hovering over her. He grabbed the man by the collar and pushed her behind him. She stumbled and caught herself against the wall.
She was astonished to see that he didn't need his quirk to beat the shit out of a man an entire foot taller than him. Well, it was Bakugou, was it not ?
There was no way he'd hog all the glory of beating them up and she launched herself at the invisible man as he stood back up. She could see the shape of his body, slightly covered in dust from the wall.
Her own fist didn't miss his jaw, then his stomach. Still weightless, the man struggled with the absence of gravity. She lifted him in the air before releasing him from her quirk and watching as he fell back down, hitting the ground with a loud crack. He didn't stand back up.
Another crack echoed behind her and she turned sharply towards Bakugou, ready to jump and help.
He didn't need her help. Why would he ever ? The man's face was covered in blood and he seemed to be cowering away from the student.
"You okay, Uraraka ?" Bakugou asked her without leaving the man out of his sight. She was surprised he was inquiring about her well being but shook herself out of her daze.
"I'm good. Thanks." She nodded even though he couldn't see her. He punched the man again and she watched as he fell limply at her classmate's feet.
"Great. Let's go back to UA." He turned around and stormed to her. She barely had time to react and grabbed her bag of mochis as he grabbed her elbow and pulled her behind him.
"Bakugou, wait !" She pulled on her arm but he didn't stop. "Are we going to leave them here ?" She tried to glance behind her above her shoulder.
"I already texted Kirishima to tell him to send the cops." He grunted, still walking. He was fast and with his legs longer than hers, she had to jog behind him to keep up with his pace.
They ran like that for five minutes before he finally slowed down.
"Bakugou…" She called him softly. She pulled on her arm again and this time he stopped. He looked at her. She was going to say something when he huffed.
"What the hell were you thinking, take that kind of short cuts when it's almost dark ?" She looked offended.
"What does that mean ?" She frowned at him, stepping closer. Had she been twenty or so centimeters taller, he could have been impressed, but she was not. She closed her eyes, breathed deeply to calm herself and took a step back. "Thank you for helping me, Bakugou." She mumbled and he smirked.
"What was that ? I didn't hear." She glared.
"I said, thank you for helping me." She fidgeted in front of him, her cheeks even pinker than they usually were. Then she glanced up at him and a cheeky smile appeared on her face. She looked above his shoulder as she said, "Maybe you'll make a fine hero, after all."
She felt his hand on her arm tightening his hold on her and for a second she was afraid he would blow her arm up.
"That's why we're all here for, isn't it ? He mumbled.
He suddenly seemed to remember that his hand was on her and he let go of her elbow as if he had been burnt.
She didn't know if it was because of the sunset light or if he was really blushing, but he had helped her and she didn't really feel like teasing him again.
"Let's go back to UA." She felt bold and slipped her arm in the crook of his elbow. He was too stunned to react as she smiled brightly at him. The roles were reversed, this time she was the one pulling him alongside her.
Bonus :
They walked in silence all the way to UA. It was such a rare occurrence to be so close to Bakugou without hearing his voice once.
She only let go of his arm when she pushed the door of their dorm open, still surprised he hadn't shaken her off earlier.
Kirishima jumped on them immediately!
"Man ! What the hell was this text ? You didn't answer any of my messages ! I was worried sick !" He wailed, checking on the boy. He frowned at the red knuckles on his hands and then, the red knuckles of Uraraka's hand. However he felt relieved as neither of them seemed to have bruises.
"Did you do what I asked though ?" The boy groaned, pushing past his friend.
"Obviously, I did !" Kirishima scoffed. "Uraraka, what happened ?" He grabbed her by the shoulders and shook her softly.
""Two men harassed me, he came to the rescue." She smiled softly.
Kirishima gasped, his eyes traveling from Uraraka to Bakugou, again and again.
"We knocked them out and left them there." She shrugged and walked past him too. "That's why he texted you."
The red-haired boy gaped at them. She stood next to the blond in the kitchen and offered him some mochis while she grabbed a glass of water. It was surprising enough to see the two of them spending time together, let alone having Uraraka sharing her precious mochi and Bakugou being so quiet in her company.
Kirishima left for a minute to get the First-Aid Kit, and when he came back the two of them were eating mochis in silence. He could see the rest of the class watching them intently, waiting for Bakugou to yell at her about personal space or for her to ask him to stop bothering Izuku.
But they didn't. They didn't seem tense either, but rather comfortable in each other's presence.
It hit Kirishima at this instant. it was Uraraka, after all. The girl got along with every one of their classmates - save for Mineta, maybe… If someone other than him could tame the beast that was Bakugou, it would be her.
He breathed deeply and, with a smile, brought them the Kit.
"Thanks, Kirishima !" She smiled at him kindly. He watched as she opened it, only to ask Bakugou if he wanted her to bandage his hand.
Kirishima heard Sato and Ojiro choking on their drinks when the boy agreed, albeit reluctantly. The entire room was silent, which was a small miracle in itself given about two-thirds of the 1A students were there.
He stopped breathing when, after Uraraka had bandaged him, he too grabbed her wrist to return the favor. He even felt slightly jealous, remembering the countless times the boy had refused his help. But if it meant he was becoming nicer and more approachable, he wouldn't complain.
He watched as Bakugou cleaned the cuts on her knuckles with the utmost care and wrapped them tightly with precise, practiced moves.
When they were done, the two of them grabbed a mochi and drank a mouthful of water. At the same time. Perfect synchronization.
Kirishima was pretty sure half their class had fainted by now but all he could think of was that he hoped Uraraka's character would maybe rub off on Bakugou… Maybe the explosive boy could grow a little bit nicer and patient. Maybe she could help with his anger management problems ?
Yes, he wanted to believe it was possible. She could calm him, he was witnessing it.
"Shit !" Her voice echoed from the kitchen when she knocked down a knife that was on the table and he flinched. Uraraka never swore. Never. Bakugou did. Not her. Kirishima flinched.
All Might, save us all, don't let Uraraka being Bakugou-fied.

AN : Well, that's it !
I didn't want Uraraka to be a poor damsel in distress, we all know she deserves better than that ! But I also really wanted to have Bakugou saving her one way or another...
I've got a few more chapters ready, I don't know which one I'll post first yet.
See you soon :)
