Fireworks

Monkey415 asked for a oneshot of it being 4th of July in Storybrooke and Henry finds Emma curled up on her bed in the foetal position with her face buried in her baby blanket during the fireworks. He gets Snowing and they find out Emma is afraid of fireworks because of childhood trauma.

Henry stared with wonder as the different colours exploded in the black night sky, spreading across and lighting up the whole town with the whole rainbow spectrum. He always loved Independence Day. Growing up it even put his mom in a good mood. He'd spent lunch with her Robin and Roland, he was spending the fireworks with his grandparents and other mom. But his grandparents had insisted he watch the fireworks his grandpa was releasing from the back garden from the window. They used the excuse of watching Neal while he was sleeping in his crib, but Henry knew they were just being overprotective. His mom was meant to be watching with him, but she had gone to get something out of her room half an hour ago. Henry reluctantly took his eyes off of the colourful display and wandered through to his mom's room.

"Hey mom you're missing the-"Henry stopped when he caught sight of his mom. She was curled up in the foetal position with her baby blanket pressed right against her ear. Henry wasn't sure what to do, so decided it was best he didn't. He ran to the backdoor and called out to his grandparents.

"Henry, what are you doing down here? We told you to stay upstairs." Charming said, stopping.

"There's something wrong with mom. She's all hunched up on her bed. She looks frightened." Henry didn't need to see anymore, Snow and Charming headed straight up to Emma's room and found her exactly how Henry had.

"Emma?" Charming said gently, sitting on the edge of her bed and touching her shoulder. "Emma, what's wrong?"

"Fireworks." Emma mumbled against her pillow. "I can't stand fireworks. They're too loud. Bad memories."

"Ok honey, you don't need to say anymore." Charming said, rubbing small circles on her back. "We won't set off any more. We can't stop the rest of the town, but we can drown out the noise as best we can." Snow went and put on one of Emma's CDs at full volume.

"Is that a little better honey?" She asked. Emma nodded. Snow and Charming shared a look. They often forgot that there were still vulnerabilities from Emma's childhood coming up to the surface. All they could do was face each one as they came along.
