Power Rangers Mystic Legacies
Prologue
In the two decades following the fall of the Master and the destruction of his mindless beasts and underlings, the Underworld was now an extension of the magical realms, the Gates now forever open. Vampires, werewolves, gargoyles, and other creatures for whom daylight was unfavorable had taken refuge in the tunnels and lived in peace with each other.
The former Terror, Itassis had been chosen by the Mystic Mother to be the Chief Sorceress of the Underworld, leading the dimension into a new age.
The Underworld was now barely recognizable to what it had been under the Master's rule. With the essence of life and good magic purging the residual evil energies from the recently liberated dimension, it had become a place of beauty like the legends of Persephone's Gardens.
Wondrous flowers bloomed, welcoming the creatures of the forest into the dimension and life flourished in all corners of the realm.
All except one part, Itassis and the Mystic Mother had quarantined, reinforcing the barricade that had separated it from rest of the Underworld with stronger magic… For it held creatures and beings even the Master had been too afraid to release.
The Cursed Planes of Tartarus.
No one remembered what lay within, but if legends were to be believed, it was better that way.
Aside from inspiring the Greek and Roman legends, tales passed from sorcerer to apprentice, till they became shrouded in mystery, becoming little more than children's bedtime stories.
Tartarus was apparently the prison to a far greater evil that even the forces of Underworld, the first master of Underworld- Lord Hades himself was wary of. He joined forces with the Mystics of Old, to banish the evil in Tartarus, to act as its eternal warden, however he had underestimated the evil energies of the Evil. Even locked behind bars, the Chaos Lord had reached out with his mind, corrupting the mind of Hades' followers, mutating them into creatures of the Underworld. Hades was betrayed by his general – Octomus, who took over the title of the Master and waged war on the other realms, turning the Underworld into a place synonymous with evil and darkness.
And now, after millennia, that evil was about to break free of their restraints, and the realms would be engulfed by a great war, unlike anything any world has seen before…
2026
Ruby Russell loved her family, but sometimes she wished she did not have literal heroes for her parents. The magical community regarded her as some sort of messiah, and the people of the city weren't much different. She was just glad that the charm around Briarwood prevented anyone from leaking the identities of the Mystic Force into social media or divulge the secret to anyone not already in the know… otherwise, her family would have a much greater hindrance in their daily lives, much like how the Overdrive and Lightspeed teams face.
She sighed, putting on her headphones, which blasted "My Happy Ending" on full volume. Like her aunt V, she was a music addict, though she did not have any genre she liked above others. Music helped her focus on other stuff.
The other kids of the former mystic rangers were not like her. They embraced their magic fully, happy to have wizards and warriors in their family… to fly on broomsticks and cast spells.
She was different.
She loved her family… She truly did.
But that was because they were good people who believe in her, not because they were heroes.
She wanted nothing to do with magic, and wanted a life outside of it.
"All this time, you were pretending…"
She was taking this line out of context, but literally, everyone her age not related to her family always pretended. People wanted to be friends with her because of who her parents were, not because of any genuine connections.
Lines of boys, human or otherwise, not to mention would be knights or wizards followed her around like love sick puppies, or showed off around her, as if she was some kind of princess whose heart can be won by gallantry.
She wanted a life where she could be herself.
Where she was not treated as royalty.
Little did she know that was the farthest from what destiny had planned for her…
