Exhaustion- part 2

TrueLove13 asked for a oneshot of a sequel to Ch91 "Exhaustion" where Charming speaks with Emma and then carries her up to bed.

Snow had to heavily support Emma into the house- she was dead on her feet.

"You don't need to stay awake much longer now." Snow coaxed her. "Just long enough for me to get some food down you and-"

"For me to tell you off for putting yourself in so much danger." Charming butted in. Emma groaned, couldn't this wait till tomorrow morning?

"Sorry honey, but you made your bed, now you have to lie in it." Snow said, as she supported Emma to the couch.

"Don't use bed metaphors just now I beg you." Emma groaned.

"Sorry. Now, do you want something simple like some toast with butter or something a bit more substantial like the leftover steak pie?"

"Just toast would be great thanks." Emma said, resting her head on her hand. She knew toast would be made quicker and could be eaten quicker- meaning she'd be in bed sooner. She looked up to her dad who was standing right in front of her. "Well I believe you had a lecture in store. Would it be possible for me to skip to the part where I say I won't do it again?" Emma tried. Charming raised an eyebrow.

"No, but nice try. Emma that was an incredibly reckless thing to do. I appreciate you were trying to do something kind for me but it is my job to protect you, not the other way round. Anything could have happened to you: you could fallen asleep at the wheel or got yourself shot or stabbed during a fight with a perp because you were too exhausted to put up a proper fight."

"Fine fine fine." Emma grumbled, fighting to keep her eyes even half open. "Lesson learned, Red is a tattle tale…"

"Emma." Charming said sternly, earning a sigh from his daughter.

"I won't pull all-nighters and then do day shifts. Satisfied?"

"Very." Charming answered her sarcastic remark as Snow came in with the pieces of toast.

"Thanks." Emma said sleepily, biting into the warm, buttery bread. She only got halfway through the first piece before Snow and Charming both heard it clatter back down to the plate and saw that Emma had dozed off.

"Do we wake her up and make her finish?" Charming asked. Snow shook her head.

"Nah, it'd be a pointless exercise. She needs sleep more than food right now. I'll make her a big breakfast tomorrow."

"Fair enough. I don't want her sleeping on the couch, she'll do her neck damage. I'll carry her up." Snow took the plate out of Emma's hands and Charming carefully slipped an arm under her knees and the back of her neck to carry her up the stairs. Snow's heart warmed at the sight. Watching the scene of Charming carrying her up the stairs to bed, it was easy to forget that she wasn't really a child.
