RAIFSG-Chapter 7
Rory was on the patio with Sassy when she heard the doorbell. Sassy's ear perked up at the sound of the door bell. She left the gate unlocked for Logan. "Sassy, come on. It's time to go in." She told the dog. "Let's see who's at the door."
She opened the door to Logan. He was dressed casually in Chino and a polo shirt. This is good because she is dressed in jeans and a blue wrap around blouse. She stepped back to let Logan in. Sassy was hiding behind Rory's legs.
"Sassy, you scaredy cat" Rory addressed the dog. "He won't bite, at least not you."
"Me or Sassy?" Logan asked.
She laughed. "I was talking to Sassy"
Logan laughed deep in his belly. "I know you said New Haven, but I was not sure how much walking we would be doing. White 'Keds' or 'Kitten Heels'?
"We will walk a little, but not a lot," He said.
Rory locked up. Logan opened the door to his vintage Porsche 911 circa 2007. She asked. "Where has this car been? I know you haven't been driving it since college."
He laughed as he sat down behind the wheel. "No, It has been in storage at the Manor. I just had it restored."
"So, I guess you think you are still 25 years old too?" She asked.
He laughed. "No, I definitely do not think I am 25 years old. Believe me when I tell you I feel my age. Tristin and I played golf today. I didn't get to play much while on the west coast. I forget how trying it can be."
They talked a while about what they did today, about their kids. Rory told him about Friday night, about Jess, his wife and daughter. He talked about Honor and Josh, their sons. Before they knew it they were pulling up at Zinc in New Haven. This is one of the few upscale restaurants in New Haven that Rory didn't mind Logan taking her to when they were in college.
The wait to be seated was short, as per normal when you are a Huntzburger or with a Huntzburger. As they followed the hostess to their table, they passed by Gigi and some guy. They waved at each other.
As soon as they gave their drink order, Rory excused herself to go to the ladies room. Gigi followed.
"Logan Huntzburger?' Gigi asked when she opened the ladies room door.
"I knew you would follow." Rory said laughing.
"I barely remember him." Gigi told her. They were both primping in the mirror. "I was like 4 when you dated, but I have heard the stories. Especially now that I am at Yale." She said and winked.
Rory laughed. "Are you having fun? Any problems?" She asked. "I do have an in with the group if you need me to.
"No," Gigi said. "Not too many people know I am your sister, but your class and Logan's class are legends."
Rory laughed. "Let's get back to our dates. Call me tomorrow and we can talk."
They both returned to their tables. Logan stood to pull her chair out for her. "I saw Gigi follow you. I figured you would be in there for a while." Logan told her. "I ordered an appetizer."
"I just told her to call me tomorrow and we can talk." She told him.
They talked through most of the meal. Logan told her Tristin told him about how they met again. He didn't tell her about Tristin saying she still loves Logan.
While they were waiting on dessert, Rory asked. "I know you and Pam divorce. Although you were on the west coast, news of that sort made it to the east coast."
"Yeah, we had been divorced for a while when she had her accident." Logan said. He looked sad.
"You don't have to tell me about it." Rory said. "I was just curious."
"I don't mind. It helps to talk about it. At least that is what my therapist tells me and the kids." Logan said with a haha.
In January 2014, Pam and I filed for divorce. Before the divorce was final, she found out she was pregnant with Josephine Honor Huntzburger. She was born in June of 2014 .We stayed together through Christmas. Then we finalized the divorce 2015. Pam was not marriage material. Let me take that back. Pam was not mother material. She loved the kids, but she was selfless.
Pam, her mother and her sister were coming home from wine country in early 2018.. They had been to a spa, when a semi lost control on the freeway and killed all three.
I have been doing the daddy thing ever since.
"Does Josey remember her?" Rory asked. "She was on 4"
"She remembers more about what she has been told about her." Logan said.
"Mitchum and Honor came to stay with me for a while. I finally told them we needed to learn to do this on our own. Shari has been trying to find me a wife ever since." He told her.
"Mitchum started talking about retiring. I knew he wasn't ready. He just thought it would be easier for me with the kids if we moved back." Logan said. "I was able to stall him for a couple of years, but after this last heart attack, I didn't have a choice. Honor stepped up until I could arrange to move back. I insisted she stay on as Co-CEO. She wouldn't do it. I finally talked her into becoming President of the HPG part of the company. She and Josh are still married and have two boys, Trac who is 16 and Samual just turned 8."
"So Mitchum finally let go of the reins?" Rory asked.
"When Mitchum started getting his ducks in order to retire, I merged my company, Logan Huntzburger Media with HPG. I am now the CEO of LHM/HPG. MItchum and Shira are still around, just not as much. They travel a lot." Logan told her.
"Wow," She said. "How do you have time for your kids?"
"I do a lot of delegating. That is why I have Honor as President. Between the two of us, Josh, my cousins Theodore and William. You remember Teddy and Bill?" He asked. She nodded. "They are department heads. I think maybe I have this figured out. But I told Honor, if it came to choosing between my family and my job, I would sell."
They finished eating, then took a walk through campus. They held hands and enjoyed the memories.
