This is a long chapter. You can blame December Jeffries2. She gave me a great review, asking questions. I had to add the answers to this chapter. I appreciate all the reviews I get. I expellally like the ones that have questions or suggestions. Thanks for reading.
Also, I will be filling the time between the dinner date and the formulary of Logan being in Rory's house.
RAIFSG-Chapter 10
October 14, 2024 Saturday
Rory and Logan both woke to a phone ringing. It took them a minute to wake up and realize where they were. Logan grabbed his boxer off the floor, slipped them on, then went looking for the ringing phone.
It took Rory a little longer. She needs to use the faculties and brush her teeth. When she got to the living room, Logan was sitting on the couch, wrapped up in a couch blanket, talking on her phone. She gave a curious look. He mouthed Josey. "Well, I am glad you are having fun. Put Chloe on the phone. Rory just walked it."
He gave Rory the phone, while Logan went to brush his teeth.
He joined her on the couch as she was hanging up with Lorelia. "Josey is having a ball. She has fun when she stays with Honor, but there really isn't a female around. It's just me and the boys. Gloria tries to help, but it's not the is the housekeeper. She doesn't have a grandmother. Shira didn't know how to raise me and Honor. She hasn't even tried with twins or Honor's two. She put forth an effort right after Pam died. She tried with Josey, but Josey was still too young."
"Yeah, Mom said she was calling them Lele and Papa Luke." Rory said with a laugh. Logan's eyes got wide. "No, Mom said it was okay. She told her to call her that." Rory said. She thought maybe Logan didn't want her too.
"They call your mom Lele?" Logan said.
Rory nodded. "You know she wasn't going for Grandma or Granny."
"Shira tried to get Joshua to call her Shira, but it came out Sheshe. Mitchum is Pops." Logan said.
"Dad is Grampy Chirs and Grammy Lana and Tristin's mom and dad are Nana and Poppy." Rory said.
"It seems like she has a good network or grandparents. Chris and Luke get alone for birthday parties and such?" Logan asked.
"Yes, they buried the hatchet before Chloe was born. They have been known to get a beer or two every now and then." Rory said with a smile.
"That's great. You and Tristin have a good relationship as well as you and Amy." Logan said.
"Yeah," she said and shrugged her shoulders. "Just because our marriage didn't work, doesn't mean I don't want to see him happy…I guess what I am saying is Chloe deserves to have both parents. That is one reason Tristin moved back to Hartford. We both, well I guess you and Honor too, grew up with broken families. My dad was so young it took him a while to get it right. We get along great now, and you know the story about Mom and my grandparents. So" She sighed, Tristin and I agreed we would put Chloe first and any partner when found needed to know that up front."
They sat there for a few minutes. Logan wanted to ask a question but wasn't sure how it would go over. After a few minutes he decided now would be the best time. If she got made, she couldn't leave right away, she would have to get dressed.
"Rory," Logan said. This got her attention. He doesn't call her Rory much. "I want to ask you a question, but I don't want you to get upset." She nodded and adjusted herself on the couch, pulling her feet up under her.
He coughed then cleared his throat. "I don't want you to think Tristom and I go around talking about you, but he told me something the other day. I was hoping for….Clarity?"
"OK," She said. He was nervous. What had Tristin told him?
"He told me you never stopped loving me." Logan said.
Rory laughed. "Well, let me see if I can get you some clarification…..About 6 months before we decided to divorce, I stopped wanting to go home. I would find any excuse to stay at work. When I realized what I was doing, I stopped. I started putting forth more effort in my marriage. I would get home before him. Cook supper, or suggest we go out. When we discussed divorce, we both thought it all started to 'fall apart', which it didn't, 'fall apart' we both just lost interest. But it was about the time you called me to tell me you were getting married."
She didn't say anything. He just sat there. He didn't know what to say, He was the blame for her marriage ending. She looked at him and could see the wheels turning in his head.
"Hey, that's not the end of the story. You are not the reason we divorced. Tristin started taking on more and more clients. Instead of the 2-3 days a week he stayed in Boston, it turned to 4 or 5, sometimes a week." She took a deep breath, got up to refill her coffee. The whole time he was watching her. He didn't say anything. He wasn't sure if he needed to talk or not.
She sat back down, this time closer to him. She could still look him in the eye, but she was within reaching distance. "He came home one Friday night. I wasn't expecting him. I had plans with Cathy and Karen. Two girls I work with. We were going out to eat, maybe hit a club. Finn was in town. He wanted us to meet him at 'Bliss' .Tristin knew all this. I didn't hide it from him, but he came in before I left. I was dressed up. We were meeting Finn at the club after we ate."
"Tristin showing up threw me a curve ball. I didn't know if he was home to go with me or just to mess up my plans. It pissed me off. I asked him what he was doing at home. He told me we needed to talk. I told him I had plans and I was going out. I picked up my purse, phone and keys. I told him I would be home before daylight, we could talk tomorrow." He just nodded.
She just paused. ….."I know this makes me sound like a bitch, but I didn't care anymore. He stayed gone so much, I had developed a life without him. I was not cheating on him. I wouldn't do that. I actually used my wedding band to turn guys away." Her phone beeped. She looked at it.
"Steph says they will be here at about 10:00. Wants to know if you and Colin are going with us or are you trusting us to pick out the costumes for you?" She asked.
He smiled. "Tell her I will get with Colin and find out what he wants. Will they be squealing like last night? The two of you acted like teenagers." She nodded and texted her.
Rory gets up to take a shower. He follows. "The squealing was because we haven't seen each other in a long while and I don't remember you complaining about me acting like a teenager when we visited the bathroom at the club. If I recall, you quite enjoyed it."
The smirk on his face told her he was remembering the blow job he got in the bathroom last night. And yes it did make him feel like a teenager. "Is that it? You are finished with the story? I mean, well it just feels like there is more." He said.
"Yeah, Let's take a shower. I will tell the rest while we get dressed.
While they were getting dressed she finished. "I went straight to bed when I got home. I was not drunk. I drank, but I had sobered up. He spoiled my night. I knew he was home and I knew when we talked, our marriage would be over. I couldn't talk with Cathy or Karen. They wouldn't understand. Finn would but I didn't need him trying to fix things." She told him standing in her underwear looking at the dress she hung up earlier. "This or the pants suit?" she asked, pointing to the pants suit she had laid on the bed.
"Wear heels with pants." He said. She nodded.
She sat down on the side of the bed to put lotion on. Logan had already turned his back to her. He couldn't have a serious conversation with her half naked, rubbing lotion all over her. He wanted to be doing that.
"I got up about lunch time. I could hear him in the kitchen. I decided to get a shower before seeing him. I didn't know if I would have to leave or not. The apartment was in both our names. When I got out of the shower, he was sitting at the desk in our bedroom. I dressed in the closet. When I came out he had a cup of coffee waiting on me. I took it. I wasn't sure who needed to start talking first, so I sat down on the chest at the end of the bed."
"He started with 'I don't know where to start.' I nodded, but just sat there. I didn't know where to start either. How do you start the conversation that you know will end your marriage?. He finally got up and started pacing. He said in so many words that he didn't think our marriage was working. He told me he found himself wanting to stay in Boston instead of coming home. It wasn't like we would fight when he was home, it was like we had different lives. I started crying. He sat down beside me and tried to comfort me, I let him for a few minutes then but I pushed him away. I told him to give me a minute. I went to the bathroom to wash my face. When I came back he started talking again. I guess trying to make me feel better, but I stopped him. I told him I was not crying because we were getting a divorce, although I did feel like a falled at my marriage, but I told him I was crying from relief. The last thing I wanted to do was to hurt him. I told him I had already figured out it wasn't working. I just didn't know how to tell him. We talked for a while more. Somewhere in that conversation you came up. He told me he was pretty sure he was just a placeholder for you. I told him he was ridiculous. He just laughed and said okay. If you say so." She sighed. "That's it. The whole thing, unless you want to know the details of our divorce agreement. It did include a prenup. My grandma pulled the Grandpa would want you to have one. I didn't want Tristin's money, he didn't want mine. So our lawyers drew it up."
He didn't say anything, she was dressed now, so was he. He walked over to her and hugged her. "I love you. I have loved you since we debated in the Branford hall at Yale. I just didn't know it. Our time is now. Our time in college just prepared us for the relationship we are having now." He said.
