CHAPTER 2: NORMAN AND DEREK LEAVE

Finally, night-time arrived. When Norman and Derek were sure Dilys was sound asleep, the got up, and grabbed their backpacks. Quietly, they snuck out the bedroom into the kitchen, and raided the cupboards for snacks and drinks, and filled up their backpacks. Then they put said backpacks on their backs.

They snuck downstairs, really quietly, then Norman grabbed the picnic hamper Dilys had packed that morning, and then, they very very carefully pushed the back door to the shop open, and snuck out into the night. And then, they ran out down the road. Then, Norman stopped, and turned round, staring at the shop, and then he shouted out at the top of his voice very loudly, "GOODBYE FOREVER, YOU GREAT BIG FAT PIG-FACE MEANIE OF A MAM!"

And then, off Norman Price and his cousin ran, down the road, over the hill, out of town, past the Floods' house, and off down the road to the forest. Neither of them cared about what Dilys, Fireman Sam, or anyone else would say if they found out they had gone. They didn't care if they never even saw Pontypandy again. All that mattered was going far far away, and never ever coming back. EVER.

'Mam's gonna be really sorry when she finds me and Derek gone!' Norman thought to himself.

Norman took one last long look at Pontypandy in the distance.

"So long, Pontypandy." he said, and carried on going, disappearing into the night, with Derek right behind him.

almost an hour or so later, Norman was now skipping merrily along the road, as happy as a jackrabbit, as merry as a schoolboy, and he was feeling very pleased with himself. "Haha!" he chuckled naughtily to himself. "THis is the best thing I've ever done! I don't know why I never thought of this before!"

"Yeah," Derek agreed. "You know," he added, "I'm beginning to enjoy this little adventure! It's almost as exciting as when I was rescued by Fireman Sam when I first came!"

"I've never actually admitted it to you or Auntie Dilys," he admitted, "but, I've never been rescued by a fireman before."

And the 2 similar looking naughty kids walked away down the road, chatting together.

As dawn began to break, Norman and Derek soon began to discover that Newtown was a very long way away.

"Are we nearly there yet, Norman?" Derek asked, tired.

"Newtown is still a long way away." Norman moaned. Then, he yawned.

"I know," he said to himself, "We'll go find a quiet place to have a sleep in the forest." Derek thought that was a good idea. He and Norman climbed over a wall, and ran into the forest.

They made it to the campsite where the charred tents were.

"Good job Trevor never took these down." Norman said to himself.

He and Derek crawled into one of the tents, laid down, and fell fast asleep.

Later, after their short nap, they tucked in to some of the sandwiches from the hamper, as his lunch. "Auntie Dilys reeally outdid herself with the sandwiches!" Derek said.

"I know." Norman said.

And then, Derek said, "Umm, Norman, do you think everyone in Pontypandy will have noticed we've gone?"

"I'm sure they haven't." Norman assured his cousin. "Heck I bet even Fireman Sam hasn't noticed I've gone."
