A weekend to cool

Rusty asked for a oneshot of Emma and Snowing having an argument and Emma crosses the town line for a weekend to get away and Snowing get worried. I've combined this with the guest who asked for Emma losing Graham's shoelace and doing something dangerous to get it back even though her parents told her not to with Snowing punishing her afterwards. Set during season 2 when only inhabitants of the EF could

"It was totally irresponsible of you." Charming told Emma off as she stormed past them into the house. "You could have got yourself killed. Do you not remember what happened when Henry went down that old coal mine to find magic? Did you want a repeat incident?"

"I was perfectly fine." Emma snapped, refastening the shoelace to her wrist where it belonged. "Besides, this shoelace means a lot to me. I wasn't going to let it get lost just because you two claim it's too dangerous for me to be down there. Nothing happened. I got it back. Drop it."

"Don't you order us around." Snow added in. "We know you're struggling with having a family now, but you do. And that means not risking your life when we could have got Graham's shoelace back another way. Emma this is serious! We're not stupid, we know some of the flooring collapsed just seconds after you got out. You used police equipment to get down there and keep the public out." Snow pointed out.

"And?" Emma snapped.

"And that's grounds for dismissal." Charming said calmly. "And now that we are our true selves, we have taken control of leadership. Fortunately for you we don't plan on firing you. But you will be taking a two week break." Charming said, folding his arms across his chest. Emma's eyes narrowed dangerously.

"You can't do that." She snarled.

"I think you'll find we can." Charming said. I already have the keys to the station so you can't get in. If this is what it takes to keep you safe then so be it." Emma knew that if she spoke now she'd say something she'd regret. She was just so mad at both of them. She was not a child and she refused to be treated like one. Instead Emma stomped up the stairs and began to pack a bag. Once she was done she quickly scribbled a note to her parents and set the alarm on her phone for four- thirty in the morning. She would need an early start so they didn't try and stop her.

The next morning, Snow and Charming woke to find the note on the table and Emma's bed empty. She had gone to Boston for a couple of days to cool off. They each tried to call her, but she wasn't answering.

"Was I too hard on her?" Charming asked, his face pale. "Is it my fault?" Snow shook her head.

"No, neither of us were. We did what we had to do. But what if she doesn't come back, Charming?" Snow said, voice wavering with emotion. Charming strode forward and pulled Snow into his arms, kissing the top of her head.

"She will, Snow. Admittedly maybe only for Henry at first, but she will come home. We will get her back. She isn't lost again, I promise." Charming stood rocking Snow slightly, both trying to ease their worry.

Emma did return home after a couple of days as promised. Snow and Charming both did their best to make amends. At first Emma was still reluctant, being a stubborn person. But eventually, she did thaw. And life went on as normal.
