Ophidiophobia

IAmCampChamp asked for a oneshot of Henry scaring Emma with a snake and she freaks out and she ends up crying. He is really apologetic because he didn't think she would react like that. He then makes her favourite dessert all by himself to make it up to her.

Henry mini fist pumped himself at the scream from his mom. They'd been taking a stroll through the woods when Henry had spied it- the harmless little ringneck snake. He'd picked it up and brought it to the toll bridge. He'd placed it on one of the barriers at the side and then rushed back to his mom to tell her that there was something cool in the water at the toll bridge. Curious, Emma had headed over and of course, found the snake. Henry then rushed over to announce he'd been behind the prank…and found her crying.

"Mom, what's wrong?" Henry asked, alarmed. "It's just a ringneck, it won't hurt you." Henry said, picking the snake back up and putting it back in the grass. Emma hastily wiped away her tears.

"Yeah, I know kid. I'm just not a fan of snakes." She said. Henry now felt really bad.

"Um…I put that snake there." He admitted. "I just wanted to give you a little fright. I didn't know you were really scared of them! Mom, I'm so sorry." Henry said, disgraced with himself.

"It's ok kid." Emma sniffled. "You didn't know." But even still, Henry felt awful. He should have thought through the consequences. He knew he'd have to make this up to her, and knew exactly how.

Later that night, Emma was sitting in the living room when Henry came through with a homemade pavlova.

"What's this Henry?" Emma asked as it was placed on her lap.

"I felt bad for the whole snake thing, and I know pavlova with peaches if your favourite so I got the recipe from gran and got baking." Emma looked at the slightly burnt edges of the meringue based dish. Sure, it was no culinary masterpiece that would win a Michelin star, but in her eyes it was perfect because her son had made it for her. He really didn't have to make up for the snake incident, Emma knew it was just an accident, how was he supposed to know she was deathly afraid of snakes? But she wasn't going to say no to this.

"I'll eat this on one condition." She said with a poker face.

"What?" Henry asked, worried he'd really upset her.

"You have a piece with me." She replied, both their faces breaking out in near identical grins.

"Deal."
