Lights out

A guest asked for a oneshot of there being a power outage and the town blaming Emma's magic thinking she'd lost control. Everyone wants her to leave town because of it but Snowing defend Emma and got into mama and papa bear mode.

It's what happens in places when such a simple thing as electricity is taken away from them for any great length of time. Even in a place filled with people who'd lived the majority of their lives electricity free. It had gone on a week now and people were getting antsy. The backup generator was no use to them now, and fingers were beginning to be pointed. Right in Emma's direction. Since the last power out was caused by someone unable to control their magic, the townspeople were creating conspiracies and rumours against Emma claiming she had lost control and the electricity wouldn't be back until she was gone. They had banded together and formed an angry mob around the loft apartment she lived in with her family to protest that she left. The group chanted, demanding she answer the door and show herself. The door unlocked and the group fell into silence, waiting to pounce on Emma, but she was not the one who answered the door. It was her parents. They had told Emma to stay bunkered down in her room until this all blew over and the electricians and engineers sorted out the problem.

"Look at yourselves!" Snow cried out. "Look at what you've become after a week without a modern convenience! Here you are like animals demanding our daughter leave her home. Well let me tell you that Emma is not going anywhere and I'd like to see the person who tries to make her leave."

"She's a danger to everyone here! She has to leave!" A voice cried out. Snow spotted the person who had spoken out and recognised them as one of her fellow teachers at the school.

"I expected better from you, Angela." Snow said, genuinely hurt. "I cannot believe you're listening to these nonsense theories and accusations."

"Yeah well, I say we drag her out here and shove her over the town line ourselves!" Fermando, the butcher, yelled with much support from the crowd. He tried to push past Snow and Charming, but Charming caught him and pinned him against the wall by his neck.

"Try and lay a finger on my daughter and I'll end you." He snarled. "That goes for anyone else who's stupid enough to try and get inside our home. Emma isn't going anywhere." Just then, the lights started flickering back on across the town from the west side right over to the east. The mob started gasping and murmuring amongst themselves.

"You see," Charming said, slinging Fermando back into the crowd. "The fault has been fixed, Emma had nothing to do with this. Shame on all of you!"

"Have you forgotten the numerous times she has saved you?" Snow said angrily. "And with not the slightest bit of proper evidence here you are condemning her? Sentencing her to exile? I suggest you all return home before I bring my bow out and do something I'll regret." Sheepishly, knowing they were in the wrong, the crowd started to disperse. Snow and Charming took a minute to cool down before going back into the house to comfort Emma, who was shaken by the whole ordeal. She was just grateful her parents had believed her straight away when she told them she had nothing to do with this. Otherwise the mob might have gotten their way.
