A sensible head on young shoulders

alemigui asked for a oneshot of Emma going into labour and having to be taken to hospital. Hook and Charming are out sailing and Snow is stuck at school so Henry has to take care of Emma.

"Dammit why are they not answering their phones?!" Emma screamed, hurling her phone down onto the couch.

"Whenever I've gone out onto the boat with Hook we turn them off. He says it ruins the ambiance or something." Henry told her.

"Yeah well you've never gone out when I was nine months pregnant. It'll be fine Emma. We won't be gone that long Emma." She said in a mocking tone as she paced the living room. Her mom also wasn't answering her phone. Emma knew she had an important transition meeting today after school. "Ok kid, right now it's just you and me. They've all been left a message on their phone…some slightly more abusive than others…and they'll get here when they can. But this baby isn't going to wait for anyone so I need you to call me an ambulance."

"On it." Henry said, sprinting to the house phone and shakily dialling nine-one-one. He arranged the ambulance and- with Emma's help- managed to answer the questions the lady on the other end of the phone. Once the ambulance was on its way Henry went back to his mom as she cried out in agony. "It's going to be ok mom." He assured her, rubbing her back. "The ambulance will be here real soon. I'll be right there with you. Hook will get your message soon and he'll be here. You're going to be ok. You can do this." Emma smiled through her pain.

"What did I do to deserve you?" Emma panted. Henry just smiled.

"Just keep breathing." He said. Emma was so proud of the young man her son had grown into, being here for her like this. One day he was going to make a wonderful father.
