Night terror
A guest asked for a oneshot of Henry scaring the crap out of Snow by coming down in the middle of the night with a bloody nose. He explains that there is something wrong with Emma and he doesn't know what to do. Snowing go up to find Emma having a night terror. In the morning, Emma has no recollection of this happening. She feels really bad about hurting Henry and buys him the video game system that he's been saving up for.
"Grandma, wake up." Snow heard Henry whisper as he shook her awake.
"Wha?" Snow mumbled sleepily, her eyes not even open yet. "Henry, what's the…leaping lizards! Henry what happened to your nose?" When Snow opened her eyes, she saw a very worried looking Henry in front of her with blood spurting from his nose. Charming woke up in all the commotion and also looked concerned at his grandson's mysterious injury.
"It's mom, there's something wrong. She did this in her sleep. It was an accident, but I don't know what's wrong." He said, pinching the bridge of his nose and holding his head down to try and stop the flow of blood. Now Snow and Charming were concerned about Emma too. Was she having a seizure?
"Do you think you're ok cleaning yourself up in the bathroom buddy? Might be best not being upstairs with your mom. You can stay on the couch. You know where the spare blankets are?" Charming asked him. Henry nodded before wandering into the bathroom to clear up his nose. Snow and Charming then headed straight upstairs to find out what was wrong with Emma. They went straight into her room to find her thrashing around on the bed crying out.
"Emma?" Charming cried out, this seemed to make her open her eyes.
"Who are you?" Emma called out, sounding very agitated. Charming was confused, what was going on. Snow now understood. She'd heard about these in Mary Margaret's fake memories of teacher training. Emma must have been having a night terror.
"Don't worry." She said soothingly. "We're here to help. Go to sleep Emma. We'll make sure you're safe." Something about the soothing voice was very reassuring to Emma. She lay her head back against the pillow and was asleep within seconds. "It's called a night terror." Snow whispered as they both approached Emma and worked together to get her covers untwisted and Emma settled comfortably in the bed. "She didn't recognise us because she was woken so abruptly. She won't remember any of this in the morning. She'll be ok now though."
"Good." Charming said, kissing the side of her head. It had been a pretty distressing thing to witness.
Together the couple went back downstairs and checked on their grandson. They reassured him Emma was fine and that it was not his fault before watching him drift off back to sleep. A final check in Neal's crib to make sure he was still sleeping before the couple got back into bed themselves.
The next morning, as predicted, Emma came down the stairs with no memory of what had occurred the previous night.
"Hey kid." She said, when seeing Henry on the sofa under the blankets. "What happened to you last night?" As she got closer she saw the now dry blood trail just under his nose. "Woh, what happened there?"
"Mom, do you not remember?" Henry asked, a little worried. The blank stare she gave him in return told him that she didn't. "Um…you were having a nightmare or something. You were thrashing around a lot and accidentally wacked my nose. It's ok though, grandpa checked it last night and said it's definitely not broken or anything." He tried to assure her. But the assurance that she hadn't broken her son's nose did little to make Emma feel much better. She could only think of one way to ease her guilt slightly.
"I'll be right back." She said, pulling on her red leather jacket. "Wait right here, ok kid?"
"Um, alright." Henry said, confused as to where she was going.
Henry did as he was told and waited for his mom to come back, explaining to his grandparents what had happened when they came through. Emma came back not long after with a large plastic bag and gave it to Henry. He peeked inside and his heart soared.
"A Nintendo NX! Awesome mom! But I thought you said I had to learn some financial responsibility and save up for it myself with the money I got from doing Mrs Chang's gardening?" Emma smiled and shrugged her shoulders.
"I think after being punched in the face by me in the middle of the night we can forget some financial responsibility. Call it compensation for having to sleep on the couch." Emma joked. Henry grinned and hugged her round the middle.
"Deal."
