All the ice cream!
A guest asked for a oneshot of the Charmings going to Any Given Sundae and one of the items on the menu is called "The Snow Monster". It's 32 scoops of ice cream, every different flavour there is including carrot. It's a challenge to eat it all by yourself in one hour to get your name engraved on a plaque on the wall. Emma orders it an accepts the challenge.
It was the first time the family had been in the shop since the new people had taken over after Ingrid's death. There had been a massive makeover on the place to try and draw in new customers, and the Charmings were all too happy to test it.
"I hope their rocky road is as good as Ingrid's." Henry chirped. "I mean, I know she turned out to be a little crazy and all but she did have good ice cream."
"I'm thinking cookies'n'cream myself." Said Charming as he held the door open for Snow to go through with the buggy.
"I'm more of a traditional strawberry girl myself. Raspberry ripple if I'm feeling particularly wild." Snow said. "What about you Emma."
"I just go with what I feel like." She said, shrugging. "It's a new menu, might as well peruse." Emma picked up one of the menus from the table and looked through.
"Jeez, forty five dollars for some ice cream? What exactly is this 'Snow Monster'?" Emma asked, totally bemused by the price.
"It's our new challenge." Said their waitress, appearing as if from nowhere. "Thirty two scoops, one of each flavour. You have an hour to finish it. If you do your name goes on the plague on the wall and you get free ice cream for six months." Snow and Charming could see the challenge spark a determination in their daughter's eye.
"I don't think this is a good idea…" Charming said. "That could lead to a mighty brain freeze."
"Not to mention, think of the timing. Sure it's May now and the temperature is going up, but think about it. What would you do in October and November before your six months ended? It's not fun eating ice cream in the freezing cold." Snow pointed out. But Emma's mind was made up. She couldn't back down from a challenge, it just wasn't in her nature.
"Well then…Laryssa." Emma said, taking a look at the waitress' name badge. "I think we're having one cone of rocky road, one cone of strawberry, one tiny tub of vanilla for the little man, one cone of cookies'n'cream and one great big Snow Monster." Snow and Charming groaned whilst Henry grinned. His mom was so awesome! Laryssa grinned.
"We've got a taker "Germar!" She called to the back. The man behind the counter looked up at Emma before laughing and shaking his head.
"Some people are just crazy I guess." He said. Emma looked from him to the board where there were only two names: a Vasily P. Korostishevsky and an Alan C. Younis. Emma was determined her name would be joining them within the next hour.
The family were all given their ice creams whilst Emma's was made up. Everyone else in the shop was now a buzz with excitement, waiting for the challenge. It was like that Adam guy from Man vs Food!
Eventually it was ready, and Laryssa and Germar both carried the heaping tray filled with a mountain of ice cream out to Emma.
"Woh!" Henry exclaimed. "That's a lot of ice cream!"
"So much sugar." Snow sighed. "So many cavities."
"Ok, you have one hour to eat it all and must receive no help." Germar explained, setting a stop clock. "If you do your name goes on the plague and you get free ice cream for half a year. Are you ready?" Emma nodded and cracked her knuckles.
"Let's do this thing."
"Ok then, your time starts…now!" As soon as she was allowed Emma picked up the spoon and began digging in. She pulled a face at the first ice cream scoop she took a chunk out of.
"Ugh, I hate carrot. Why mix veg with ice cream? What next? Cabbage-"
"Never mind that mom, just go!" Henry yelled. People had now gathered round to watch as Emma took on the mountain of ice cream as tall as Mount Everest, or so it felt like to Emma. She reluctantly finished the carrot and took a chunk out of the next one. Caramel fudge, which was a lot more appetising to Emma.
Three quarters of the way in and Emma was drooping. She could swear she was going to end up needing insulin after all this sugar.
"You don't have to finish." Snow reminded her over the now chanting crowd.
"After spending forty five bucks? Hell yeah I do." Emma said, her mouth full of what appeared to be mainly bubblegum, but the flavours were all mixing now. There might have been a bit of tutti frutti.
With six seconds left on the clock, Emma took the last of the now melted dribbles of ice cream and just managed to gulp it down. The crowd exploded with applause. Emma sat back on her chair feeling her now bloated belly straining against her jeans.
"Well done Miss Swan, here is your free ice cream pass. Congrats on being our first woman to complete the ice monster challenge!"
"Does it count if it doesn't all stay down now?" Emma asked. Confused, Germar nodded. Emma suddenly got up and sprinted to the bathroom.
"We warned you!" Charming called after her. She may have completed her challenge, but she would get little sympathy of sugar related sickness from them!
