Camping trip
RoseRed asked for a oneshot of the Charmings going camping. Emma can't sleep and is tossing and turning because she forgot her baby blanket. Snow finally sits up and asks her what's wrong. Emma tells her it's nothing. Snow remembers that she packed the blanket just in case and gives it to her. Emma gets embarrassed and says "I don't need my baby blanket; I'm an adult!" But Snow knows better.
"Stupid camping trip." Emma muttered under her breath as she tried to make herself comfortable on the hard ground. Sleeping bags didn't give much room for tossing and turning, but Emma did the best that could, wriggling from one side to the other in the small two man tent. Emma could blame it on everything under the sun that she could think of is she wanted. The hard ground, the cold, the bugs, even her son's snoring from the tent next door. But deep down Emma knew none of those were the reason she couldn't sleep, it was because she'd forgotten her baby blanket. She'd deny it to anyone, but she couldn't sleep without it at least being under her pillow.
"Alright, what's wrong?" Emma heard her mom ask. Emma stopped wriggling around, just turning her head to face her mom. "You've been tossing and turning for ages."
"Sorry, I didn't know I was keeping you up." Emma said sheepishly.
"You're not, but don't change the subject, what's wrong? Is it peeing in a bucket? Because Emma I know it's not the most dignified way of doing things but it's better than holding it in until we're home midday tomorrow…"
"I don't need to pee." Emma grumbled. "I'm just restless is all. Not much of a camping person." Snow's eyebrows furrowed together. That wasn't it, she just knew. But then something clicked for Snow, she realised why Emma couldn't sleep. She scooted over to where her backpack lay and started rooting around it in the dark until her hand closed round the familiar piece of material. Snow had an inkling when she saw Emma's blanket discarded on her bed just before they left for their mini trip that she might need it at some point. She picked it up and gently draped it over Emma's torso.
"There." She said softly, understanding. "That should help." Emma felt over her and realised it was her blanket. She felt her cheeks heat up even in the chill of the night. How had she known?! But Emma couldn't own up to it, it was too mortifying.
"I don't need my baby blanket; I'm an adult! Thanks, but I told you, I'm just restless." Emma said, tossing the blanket over to Snow. However Snow could see right through Emma's façade.
"Well, even so, it might keep you a little warmer. Nobody else is going to know." Snow draped it back over Emma. Emma felt her cheeks heat up again, but could not see the point in continuing to deny wanting it.
"Well, thanks I guess." She muttered as nonchalantly as possible. She clutched the blanket to her chest and was asleep within minutes. Snow smiled at hearing her now evened out breathing.
"Sleep well, my angel." She whispered over. Now that she knew Emma was settled she could finally sleep herself.
