Hard to decipher

A guest asked for a oneshot of a little Emma learning to talk trying to tell Snow something but she can't understand her. She keeps asking Emma to repeat herself and Emma gets frustrated and starts to cry. Snow hushes her and gets her to say it again. She finally understands what Emma is saying and it melts her heart.

"See oh roca cha ah cuda!" Emma said, holding her arms out to her mama. Snow's brows knitted together as she tried to decipher Emma's speech. Emma had not long turned two and although she was now able to string sentences together the words she were trying to form were not always easy to make out.

"What was that baby?" Snow asked Emma, making sure to look directly at her lips as she spoke.

"See oh roca cha ah cuda." Emma repeated, toddling over to Snow. Snow still didn't have a clue.

"Sorry baby, tell mama one more time." Emma's little bottom lip started to quiver.

"See oh roca cha ah cuda." She said again, sounding defeated. Snow sighed sadly, it broke her heart when she couldn't understand her daughter. Surely as her mother she should instinctively know what she was saying.

"Baby mama's really sorry, but she can't understand what you want." Snow told her. Emma started to bawl great big sopping wet tears.

"See oh roca cha ah cuda!" She demanded. Snow picked Emma up and started to hush her as she swayed back and forth with her. Emma buried her head against Snow's shoulder and howled.

Snow repeated the action over and over again until Emma eventually calmed down.

"Now," Snow said, holding Emma out so she could look into her eyes. "Mama knows it's annoying that I can't understand you, but getting all upset won't help either. Try one more time and speak nice and slowly." Snow said calmly.

"See oh roca cha ah cuda." Emma repeated, looking at her mother desperately, and something inside Snow suddenly just twigged.

"Ahhh, mommy understands now baby, of course we can." Snow cradled Emma against her and walked over to the rocking chair and sat down. She used the tips of her toes to gently sway the chair back and forth, cuddling Emma against her. Emma wanted to sit on the rocking chair and cuddle. Snow felt so elated that she could understand her. Maybe she did have some instincts lying around after all.
